Lady Of the Lake 4 - Charlotte Jenkins

    CHAPTER 1

    ––––––––

Anastazie walked briskly out of the hall. She bumped into a couple of people and only managed to mumble a little apology as she kept walking on.

Her head was bowed. She didn’t want anyone to see her tears. Andel hadn’t even followed her.

The exit wasn’t too far off in the distance. She needed to clear her head.

Like a panther pouncing on its prey, Amanda emerged from the corner and grabbed Anastazie’s arm.

Let go of me, you monster, Anastazie screamed as she tried to pull her arm, supposedly, out of Andel’s grip. She turned to see Amanda looking at her with a smirk on her face.

    Anastazie was confused.

Amanda? What are you doing here? she asked.

Amanda let out a low chuckle.

Tsk, tsk, tsk. I’m afraid I’ll have to ask you the same question. I came here with hopes of finding out if you were the one still standing in the way of I and Andel. To my surprise, it seems you were also sidelined. I’m so sorry about that, Amanda said with mock sympathy.

Anastazie rolled her eyes. She lifted her face after subtly wiping the tears from her chin.

Well, it seems I was right about you all along. You really are cheap and desperate. You really need to come to grip with the fact that Andel doesn’t want you anymore. I know it’s hard, but it must be done.

Now, look! The girl who just got her heart broken for the first time is now giving me advice. Look here, missy. You don’t know the tiniest thing about love. Let the experts do the rounds while you go and languish in fake school.

Anastazie had a couple of things to tell Amanda, but the conversation was getting too tense, and people had begun to stare. She didn’t want anyone thinking they had been fighting over Andel. She would have rather died than let people think that of her. Andel wasn’t worth her energy.

Andel isn’t worth your energy, Amanda. Rather than we arguing here, why don’t we rather feel pity for the lady that has now fallen into his trap?

With that, Anastazie continued her walk.

Amanda knew that Anastazie’s words were right. She just didn’t like other people having the last word.

Come back here, missy. I’m still talking to you. Amanda called after her, but Anastazie didn’t look back. She just kept walking until she got out of the event hall.

When she got outside, she took a deep breath. Inside had felt suffocating.

She couldn’t believe she had allowed herself to be fooled again.

First, she had allowed herself to be fooled into thinking that Matthew liked her- loved her even. When he had proved otherwise, she had promised herself that she wouldn’t be giving her heart that easily to any other person.

Andel was the last person who was supposed to be able to charm her. She had always known he was a playboy, and he would never be serious. Still, she had allowed herself to get carried away with his care.

For a second, she had believed he really liked her. She had
