    DIGITAL MARKETING DEFINED

DIGITAL MARKETING IS defined by the use of numerous digital tactics and channels to connect with customers where they spend much of their time: online. From the website itself; to a business's online branding assets - digital advertising, email marketing, online brochures, and beyond—there's a spectrum of tactics that fall under the umbrella of digital marketing. (HUBSPOT Definition)

Digital media is so widespread that consumers have access to info whenever, wherever, and however they want it. Digital media is an ever-growing source of entertainment, news, shopping and social interaction, and consumers are now exposed not just to what your company says about your brand, but what the media, friends, relatives, peers, etc., are saying as well. And they are more likely to believe them than you. People want brands they can trust, companies that know them, communications that are personalized and relevant, and offers tailored to their needs and preferences.

    Digital Marketing Tactics and Examples

The best digital marketers have a clear picture of how each digital marketing campaign supports their overarching goals. And depending on the goals of their marketing strategy, marketers can support a larger campaign through the free and paid channels at their disposal.

A content marketer, for example, can create a series of blog posts that serve to generate leads from a new e-book the business recently created. The company's social media marketer might then help promote these blog posts through paid and organic posts on the business's social media accounts. Perhaps the email marketer creates an email campaign to send those who download the e-book more information on the company.

Below are some common digital marketing tactics that are used:

    Website Development

Content marketing (copy writing techniques, blog posts, infographics, e-books,..)

    Search Engine Optimization (SEO)

    Email marketing

    Social media marketing

    Google Ads

    DEVELOPING A DIGITAL MARKETING STRATEGY

BUYER PERSONA – Your Target Audience

A MARKETING PERSONA is a composite sketch of a key segment of your audience. For content marketing purposes, you need personas to help you deliver content that will be most relevant and useful to your audience. Ardath Albee

Your buyer persona is a character profile based on research about your ideal customers. The buyer persona should be as detailed as possible and include information on demographics, behavior patterns, motivations, and goals.  Buyer personas help marketers build better marketing plans, and understand the wants and needs of their customers.

Buyer Persona is your corner stone in the targeting efforts. Digging deeply in the details of the internet users demographics is essential. To accomplish your results you must have a clear and detailed idea about who is your target audience is and how they interact on the web. Almost all social platforms offers ads management tools to help you your campaigns reach various audiences in terms of location, gender, ages, education, interest, behaviors, etc. Even small budget entrepreneurs or businesses can achieve great results with a carefully selected targeting.

    Develop Your Buyer Persona

Let’s truly build out the Buyer Persona profile. If you already have an established business:

❖  Ask your customer service team

❖  Google Analytics – review demographic & interest reports.

❖  Social Media Analytics – analyze demographic reports.

❖  Use traditional market research – interviews and focus groups.

If not, you have to think of your solution for the customer needs. You might think of developing a photo editing app, or photography tips blog, or artisan website; each selected niche will have a respective buyer persona to deal with. You can use:

❖  Quora.com – understand the utmost common questions for your niche.

❖  Facebook Groups and instagram Followers – Analyze profiles of group members.

❖  Online Marketplaces & Review Sites – Amazon, Yelp, Udemy, AppStore etc.

❖  Typeform – ask what is your biggest fear / frustration with topic x.

However, let’s now imagine that we are filling out a virtual buyer profile for a Men’s Wear Fashion online shop. It’s cool to give your buyer persona a name, it will let it feel more humanistic and looks like a real person; and enables you to think as your buyers’ thoughts and from their perspectives.
