About this ebook
The clock is ticking. The King is dying. All are asking, “Who will replace him? Who can?” but there is no answer. It is felt throughout the Kingdoms that with King Zurich gone and no one strong enough to take his place, their world is doomed. King Shadak of the Underworld knows that now is his time to strike and take the Kingdoms for himself. Above ground, waiting for her scouts, Princess Elise of the Fairies comes face to face with a Slyth, one of the fiercest and most deadly creatures on the island. To make matters worse she and her small group are attacked by a larger group of elite Underworld warriors. Will they survive? Will she?

The Kingdoms of Magic
Book 2: The Big Secret
By Robert Marquiss
Chapter One (Surprises)
It’s morning. Queen Elise and sorceress Daleana are by the large pond in the middle of the Forest of the Fairies. Her six Royal Guards are nearby watching them. Frogs, butterflies and dragonflies flitter and jump about. Queen Elise is sitting on the boulder, looking for her Messenger Fairies. Daleana is wrapped in a blanket, her head on a pillow sleeping on the side of the boulder as she did before. Daleana awakens and rises on one arm and, looking around, sees the Queen.
Daleana, as she starts to get up, mumbles in a groggy manner, My Queen.
Queen Elise, smiling, states, You do not have to get up and bow. It’s ok.
Daleana sighs in an exhausted manner with a belch and murmurs, Thank you!
Queen Elise shakes her head in amazement.
Daleana continues, I’ll just lie here for a minute and get my creaky bones working.
She laughs. I haven’t slept out in the wild for some time. It’s so peaceful here. Even had a squirrel snuggle up to me for a while. It was cute though, except when he tried to put nuts down my tunic.
Queen Elise laughs.
Daleana asks, Shouldn’t you be staying in your palace?
Queen Elise answers, No, my place is here waiting for my messengers. All but a few have come back. And all except Princess Caprice are willing to help, so far. I have assigned someone to handle my duties at the Palace and get it ready for any emissaries or heads of state that might come to acknowledge my new status as Queen of the Fairies.
Daleana states, Well done!
She looks around and asks, Where’s my puppy dog? I don’t see him anywhere.
The Queen replies, He asked if he could leave to get some things last night, as he felt you and he would be here for a while. I gave him permission to go. I hope that is OK with you.
Daleana assures, Totally OK with me. You’re the boss!
She laughs.
A trumpet signals that someone is coming.
Queen Elise ponders inquisitively, I wonder who that could be?
They hear the movement of something bulky and noisy coming up a narrow path to the pond. Queen Elise signals two of her guards to see who is coming. They wait, eyes pealed on the path.
Low and behold, it’s Winkle, dressed in new clothes.
