SNOW SWIRLED ABOUT Kefjan and carried away the whisper of his steps as he passed through the forest. The sun slid beneath the trees, and with darkness came the bitter cold. Kefjan pulled his red jacket tight and tugged hard at the sled as he hurried home with his load of firewood.
Over the rustle of drifting snow and the creaking of ancient trees, a noise caught Kefjan’s ear. Kefjan followed the strange, shrill sound until he came to a heavy snowdrift. He gently brushed away the snow and then drew back in amazement.
