    Intermittent Fasting - Jacob Greene

    Introduction

My name is Tiffany Greene, a middle school teacher and an ardent supporter of intermittent fasting. Only when I was halfway through my 30s did I begin to struggle with my weight. I must confess that all the methods that I was using weren’t working. Last December, I had a kind of epiphany, and realized that I wanted to enjoy life, but health and fitness stood in my way. My husband had been toying with me, and he didn’t believe that this current strategy that I employed would work. Even though I was skeptical at first, I continued. The first few days were challenging, but having endured the initial transition in my lifestyle, I noticed positive changes. Later, I learned that this process known as Intermittent Fasting (IF) could help me more than I could imagine. I needed a quick result, but I wanted it to be very effective. My husband later joined me in my journey to lose weight. We kept different schedules, but we kept the IF lifestyle together. He lost about 80 pounds through IF combined with a substantial restriction of carb and sugar intake. Furthermore, his blood pressure also improved, and he is no longer pre-diabetic. I didn’t have much weight to lose like my husband, but I was down to about 40 pounds from 199 pounds starting weight. It made me excited. I also found out that if Intermittent Fasting could help improve my emotional health and not just the physical. One thing that kept me going was that I was patient and open-minded. Intermittent fasting provides an overall increase in the quality of life and personal control in the aspect of eating. I was able to master that so well that no food could actually drive me crazy. All my cravings were subdued.

Over the years, fasting is becoming something well-liked and accepted. People have different reasons for fasting, but it falls within two options; religious practices and health solutions. In the holy month of Ramadan over 1.6 billion Muslims take part in fasting and they would fast between sunrise to sunset. For Muslims, fasting isn’t about being healthy or losing weight, or it is about the declaration of faith. There have been some numbers of studies over the past few years. We can never over-state the benefits of fasting, intermittent fasting inclusive. It helps reduce weight, reduce blood pressure, insulin and cholesterol and it also helps to develop the brain.

However, as a beginner, you wouldn’t want to jump into fasting because you’ve read an article or because you’ve heard that fasting would make you slim or lose weight. If you start fasting, you might just end up having severe health issues. There are some safety considerations you should consider before fasting. The duration and experience should be taken into consideration when you want to go into fasting also. Your relationship with food should also be noted.

At the start of the year, the gym is always packed. People want to lose some fat desperately, and they want to follow the New Year diet resolution. Don’t worry, it is just packed for the first two months. It is essential to realize that the key to good health is in nutrition and exercise. However, focusing on the health benefits of nutrition, one would want to go into intermittent fasting diet, and this is an exciting option compared to other dietary approaches.

So does this mean that intermittent fasting diet would work compared to other diets? The truth here is that I don’t know. It all depends on your system, find what works best for you and stick with it. I am sure you’ve been able to do that if not you wouldn’t be reading this, maybe you would be reading about keto diet or something else. I would open your eyes to the immense benefits of intermittent fasting. It would be a practical and straightforward guide to losing weight.

Research has been able to tell us that fasting helps to lose more fat mass and fewer muscles mass or water weight that very low-calorie diets or weight loss cleanse and detoxes, isn’t that good news? The study found out that intermittent fasting has been able to help people cut 4-7% from their waist circumference over a period of 24 weeks. What that means is that they had been able to lose actual belly fat which is the harmful fat around the organs without going to the gym. That’s good, right? Furthermore, the researchers found a special kind of intermittent fasting known as the alternate day fasting which can cause an average of 8.4 Ib (3.8kg) extra fat loss compared to the low-calorie diet you know.

Above all, you should not consider intermittent fasting as something that is diet restrictive. Find the comfort in what you believe in, and all would work out well. You would be taught how to start small, from 4 hours fast to 8 to 16 to 24. You would also be exposed to the fact that you can get all the calories you need by eating little. A reduced calorie would lead to fat-loss at the initial stage, but your body has that perfect mechanism to compensate that process by slowing down your metabolism.

Just so you know, the benefit of intermittent fasting is endless; you wouldn’t learn about losing weight alone, there are other healthy self-help benefits. One thing I would want you to do is to open your mind and allow these new ideas to come in. I know you are probably on a diet or you have this master plan that you’re probably working on. Still, I would want you to see this book as a guide and not a book of authority. Get the best out of it and leave the rest. You can do it!
