Recently, there has been a growing campaign for this diet with a view to sparing consumers the health challenges that are associated with consuming some types of food that are rich in lectin. There is a long list of foods with low lectin content and are, therefore, safe for consumption.

What actually are Lectins?
Lectins are, in general, those proteins which are responsible for binding cell membranes together. They have a sugar binding nature, and they are actually the ‘glyco’ portion of the glycoconjugates present on cell membranes. These help the cells to join together without the need of an immune mechanism. It is the necessary factor for inter-cellular binding.
Lectins are normally present in that unique part of the seed ( i.e.,the cotyledon) which transforms into the leaves after the sprouting and growth of the plant. They make up a considerable portion of legumes and raw grains. The quantity of lectins in food
