    Introduction

You’ve just fallen into an unknown dimension of parenting, where centuries of social expectations have been flipped upside down. Your instincts are confused, and hazards lurk around every corner. Take a moment and look around at this alien landscape. All around you there are strange new creatures scurrying under foot. You have become...a stay home dad.

This is how it felt for me six years ago when my wife left for work and I was home alone with my infant son for the first time. There just aren't very many places to look for guidance on how to be a man in a woman's world. And no, as much as I like Michael Keaton, Mr. Mom doesn't count as an ideal role model.

When I looked around for other guys who were already in this role, I felt very isolated and even embarrassed to reach out. Fast forward to today and I'm a completely changed man. I care for my two boys, as well as three other kids ranging from infant to preteen, and consider time with all five of them fairly easy to handle.

Yeah, you heard that right! Five kids buzzing around the house and I can find time for housework, projects, meals, laundry, and even some writing on good days.

If you knew me in college, this might seem impossible. I was disorganized to the extreme, unmotivated, and just plain irresponsible. So what changed? Was it an experimental brain replacement surgery? Powerful hypnosis? Some form of Freaky Friday body switching gone amazingly right for once?

As cool as those options might have been, the truth is a whole lot simpler, and yet equally powerful. Having kids can fundamentally change who you are, usually for the better. My wife and I decided it was best in our situation for me to stay home and be a full time parent. That decision refocused my entire existence, and whatever the future holds, I will be a stronger and more determined man because of it.

But enough about me, this book is about you! You will own your new role as stay home dad after reading this guide. First, take the words surviving and coping and throw them in the dumpster where they belong.

I want you to dominate parenthood so completely that you stop defining yourself as ‘just’ a stay home dad, and start seeing yourself as a rock star human being who also just so happens to parent like a boss.

So, are you man enough to stay home?

If so, then it's time to get to work!

Figure Out Why You'll Stay Home

This should be an easy question. Why are you a stay home dad?

Do you have an easy answer? Most new (and even not so new) stay home dads will start rambling, or
