    The Locksmith - Millicent Segwane

    Chapter 1

    6 Years earlier.

P olinda Lucy Smit, graduated top of her class to complete her Degree in computer science The speaker said and the crowd went crazy.

It was not every day that a young black girl went and furthered her studies, let alone graduate at the top of her class.

Polinda went forward and then she waved happily at the audience, her grandfather, father and her big brother stood in the audience smiling to the sun and back.

This was the moment they had all been waiting for, this moment meant a brighter future for all four of them.

While the crowd cheered a joyful Polinda on, the doors to the hall opened so violently that the crowd went silent and then they looked at the back, Polinda looked straight ahead wondering who it could be that just stole her spotlight, the spotlight she worked so hard for.

Police! Everybody freeze! The two policemen shouted as they walked to the stage and everyone stood there confused "Who is getting arrested?" was the question everyone (except the guilty) was asking.

Sorry to disturb but we are looking for- The one policeman stopped as the other whispered in his ear as he pointed to someone in the audience...it seemed that the guilty had been spotted.

They both walked towards the guilty party as Polinda's world shattered in seconds...Polinda was no fool, she knew.

Mr Smit, you are under arrest for illegal drug possession and the murder of Carlos Young you have the right to remain silent- The policeman continued to give Polinda's father his rights.

Ciroc, Polinda's big brother looked at Polinda with so much pity, they both weren't fools, they knew how their father made his money...they knew that no good can ever come out of any bad actions...they both knew that one day their father would get arrested...after all, every dog has its day...they just never knew that it would be today in front of all these people, news reporters, prospect employers...

Polinda's father looked at her and then he mouthed a sorry...he was sorry but she was doomed for the worst possible future.

SIS CIROC SAID AS he rushed into Polinda's room only to find her looking at the news in tears.

Switch that off Ciroc said to her but she just stayed glued to the TV, her father’s arrest was all over the news.

Everyone is talking about this Polinda said sadly...all eyes were on her and her family.

    It will be old news

Sure, as if anyone is going to forget about a notorious drug lord getting arrested at his daughter's graduation She said finally switching the TV off.

That's more like it...we have a problem...I can't get a hold of Mcdilly...Word on the street says that he left town after dad's arrest

And you are telling me this because? You know I don't want anything with this Business!

Calm down, I just wanted to let you know that I am working on getting dad out of there

With what money? The state froze everything! Now Mcdilly is on the run! Maybe it's best that dad stays in prison...he is safer in there than out here Polinda said harshly.

She loved her father and after fruitless attempts to get him to live a normal life, him being locked away seemed like a good idea...he won’t always have to carry a gun around in order to be safe.

Ciroc's phone rang and he answered it immediately and after a few seconds he hung up and then he sat down on Polinda's bed with his face down as he was trying to hide the tears...

C? What's wrong? Polinda asked as she sat next to him.

It's the prison...they, uhmm they said uhmmm

    Yes? Speak

Dad got stabbed and he uhmmm

    No

    He-

    Ciroc No!

    I am sorry sis

He was sorry, but just like the day their father got arrested...Polinda was doomed in the future.

    Chapter 2.

    Present.

T his should be the key...but I do advice that you change the locks maybe someone might pick up your lost key then use it to break into your house Polinda says to the nice lady who looks like she is in her mid-thirties.

Polinda is being as nice as she can, this woman looks filthy rich...who knows what treasures are in her house for Polinda to find?

True...I will send you my address then you can come later on yes? The lady askes and Polinda smiles like no other.

After exchanging contacts and agreeing on what time to meet up the woman leaves the shop and Polinda immediately dials her brother.

You have good news? Ciroc says into the phone.

Yes, tell Ash that I will be able to do the job tonight and that the client must drop of the cash before midnight at its usual place She says.

Great stuff soldier Ciroc says before hanging up.

Hey madam locksmith? A familiar voice says and Polinda looks up from her phone to her brother's best friend Current.

Are you looking for a key? Polinda asks him.

Yes...the key to your heart He says and Polinda laughs at him...Current always tried his luck and today is no different as Polinda is still not interested.

Oh, I don't think I have that somewhere here but I will order and get back to you right after never Polinda says then she adds a smile at the end.
