Machima - Millicent Segwane
Chapter 1.
Marian's POV.
B ring forth your yearly sacrifices to the great Machima
The troll says to everyone who has gathered for this ceremony. They all hold their family members tight so that they are able to present their yearly sacrifices as a united front.
This is Modirang Night, the night wherein all the government members bring their yearly sacrifices in order to secure their riches for the time to come and also to secure their positions in the society.
All the ministers and their families step closer, each family presenting its yearly sacrifice to the great Machima. All the ministers have to bring forth the blood of ten virgins each and they also have to present the blood of their enemies.
You have done well, the great Machima is pleased with you
The troll says and they all nod then they start to chant.
Marimba, kanchani, moroba khachani, forgora, debiyamosoba
The ministers and their families chant and chant around the fire while they throw the blood into the very same fire.
Silence!
The troll says and everyone goes mute, giving the troll the greatest of respect.
It is time for the president and his family to bring forth their sacrifice
The troll says and everyone moves away from the fire so that my father, my mother and I can be given the chance to present our sacrifice.
My father goes forward with me and my mother by his side. He is holding a jar filled with blood in his hands and everyone waits in anticipation, having the highest rank in the government means that we present the greatest sacrifice of them all.
I look at my father as excitement starts to rake over my body, Modirang Night is by far one of the greatest events I have the privilege of attending ever since I was born.
From birth my parents have been part of the Machimas and they have taught me all our ways...to us, blood is life...blood is everything, so for you to get what you want, to get everything that you need, it meant blood had to be shed which was perfectly okay with me...my life was beyond amazing and it was all thanks to Machima and her ways of life.
My fellow people in forgora khachani, I present to you the blood of the highest priest
My father says and everyone starts to chant again.
Every year we had to kill the priest, pastor etc...it could be anyone really, as long as his or her religion gained more followers, we had to kill him/her.
It was never a problem, we live by the blood of anyone who is not a Machima and I mean ANYONE.
The reason for killing every priest of whatever religion grew, is because Machima is a small group as compared to the number of people who fill up mosques and churches like sardines, so to make sure that bloodshed makes our lives amazing the way it is now, we have to make sure that no religion is stronger than us, hence getting rid of the source.
Marimba, kanchani, moroba khachani, forgora, debiyamosoba
The people keep chanting and after my father throws the blood of the priest into the fire, an explosion takes place, which is an indication that the sacrifice has been accepted and right there and then Machima appears and we all look at her in awe, she is so powerful it amazes me, at times I wanted to have a sit down with her and find out how she does it all...she is amazing, a true goddess.
You have all pleased me with your sacrifices, this year will be yet another prosperous year, and your people will love you
Marimba
The people say.
They will seek you even in their sleep
Kanchani
They will crave your lifestyles
Moroba khachani
They will wonder why their religion has not blessed them like yours has
Forgora
And they shall grow weaker in their faiths, you shall help them and still remain supreme...You shall live long and prosper
Debiyamosoba
We all say with our fists in the air in happiness.
But...
She says and everyone is now clouded with worry.
The people will soon wonder about your success, you must do all that it takes to be part of their religions as a farce
Part of their religions?
My father questions, it will be too strange pretending to be part of their religions, especially the same religions we work so hard to destroy.
I have spoken
Machima says then she disappears living us all in awe.
Sweetie
My mother says as she walks into my room and then she sits on my bed.
I turn away from the mirror where I was doing my makeup and I look at her...she looks stunning, Nkopi's first lady, she looks and deserves the part.
Hey mommy what's good?
I ask and she laughs, my mother always found it amusing whenever I spoke like a normal teenager.
Ready for the dinner?
Yep
I say all too joyful and she picks up on it.
Is it because of a certain someone that you are so excited? A certain deputy president’s son maybe?
My mother asks with a wink and I look away blushing.
She is not far from the truth. Jace Adams is the deputy president’s second son and we have been friends for quite some years and as of late, him and I started dating and being the president’s daughter, social media was sure to let my parents know that we are officially a couple.
Now, now, mother, I am spending the night with my fellow Machimas, I am excited
Which is true, every time after we present our sacrifices, we host a dinner and invite all the Machimas to wine and dine with us.
Mmmmmm I see, can we talk?
You mean can you say something, because mother we are already speaking
I say and she laughs.
True...anyway, remember what Machima said last night?
She asks.
Just so we are clear, you mean the part where she said we should join other religions?
Yes honey, your father and I, along with the Adams have decided to send our children to a Christian school
Hamma?
I question clearly not liking this idea for one bit.
Sweetie I know, but Machima wants us to look like we are part of a certain religion...we don’t want to get you or Jace involved as you guys are still too young
Too young? Wow mom I am 17 but okay
Sorry my angel, and another thing...you will be moving to another country to live with Alicia, she will look after you and Jace
"Me and Jace? So you are saying
