My name is Jacob and I am a aspiring writer,Yes I know we all say that and then we end up in one of those jobs that pays the bills, but I love working in Childcare, so I got the happy job. I love my job, but my passion is writing and has been since I was eleven year old and was running around my adopted family's property yelling and screaming, acting out my pages. I fell in love with story telling and always forget how to spell 'Story'.My other interests are graphic art, childcare, photography, music, movies and video games. I would refer to myself as a happy go lucky socially awkward geek who likes to makes others laugh... therefore I aplogise for all the death in my books and future books.... and pretty much everything I write. I know I am weird and different and I have embraced that in my books, so please enjoy!

    LAST KINGDOM

    BY JACOB DAVIES

    INTRODUCTION

Centuries ago, there lived a powerful race of people; they had the common misconception that they would be loved until the very ends of time. But like so many before them, their greed, envy and hatred eliminated them all as they leapt, the feeling of these emotions in such an increasing influx was too much for them to handle. The race was nearing extinction, with only seven brothers and sisters whom happened to be hidden inside of the holy temple of light praying as the wave wiped out everything. They were the only to survive, powerful beings who were stronger than any mortal, deciding that they could live together as Gods… They wanted to create a new world, one that was full of life and prosperity, and for a while, everything seemed to be peaceful and in order. But a world ruled by a God can never be at peace and that mortals eventually decided that the best way to be together was to break apart, break about in multiple factions. The Gods sacrificing them to prove that they were the one true God and ruler of Devonthorthe.

    Then the war began…

Blood was splattered over the fields, monsters were brought up from the very pits of hell to kill and maim, and the innocents who got in the way were sentenced to death. The people of Devonthorthe started to wonder when the killing would come to an end; they began to question why they were still fighting an unwinnable war. Peace seemed so far out of reach… That was until a man who presented himself as the King of the Beast appeared from a swirling pool, shared his many ideas on how the people should all come together to put an end to their tyranny. The gods, in his opinion, we're easy to end, their weakness being their petty rivalries.

With the help of the Beast King, they rose up against their creators and trapped them, they each had their own intricately designed prison created by mortal who had found a way to harness magic that was hidden throughout their world. The tyrants were trapped, trapped until the world decided they needed the help from the Gods and until the people of Devonthorthe were overcome by their fate.

Written by Falidor Maxwin as dictated by Donovan Harillio

Many tales have been written of the times of old.

Thousands of years have passed since the Gods were imprisoned and the story itself can be found in many scriptures locally or in far-off lands. Most commonly found in any scripture that mentions that history of Devonthorthe, although many humanoids of this time believe that the stories of old are untrue or greatly exaggerated… A myth.

The Tyrants are now known as the Myth of the Angelic Knights, the recreators of the world, and yet the destroyers of all hope. The myth, however, sparked up controversy that evolved into a full-blown religion, a position where the humanoids are able to form a belief around stories that are retold and are no longer able to show any physical proof to prove the religions credibility… But belief can be one of the strongest emotions a human can express.

But this unfortunate belief in the angelic Knights is where our storey begins, a notion in fact that makes one whether there is only good and evil or is there shades. Setting a monster free could be an utter disaster or cause the next world war, but on the other hand, it could save the world and bring peace and unity once again…

Let me see… The future is grim… Yes, here… No wait there is the death of millions, oh my I can’t believe someone could do such a horrible thing… Good, I think I found the right one… Oh, heavens have I not introduced myself, I often forget myself sometimes… This one time I was speaking with… Oh, there I go again…

I am Lucrusis, the God of forgiveness and the changer of fate or the Time Keeper of Fate for the Lytheans and I must be frank with you as my time is decreasing and you must be getting to your position as soon as possible… Let me first share some information that I think is rather relevant to your new position and the history I shall share…

The world of Devonthorthe was not always as prosperous as is it, but centuries ago the races did live in harmony… After the Gods were trapped within their prisons, the people worked together to make a brighter future. There were no wars, few lives were lost to crime, and The Beast King was the new ruler over all the sacred lands… He was the greatest ruler we were ever to know, but there came a time where the King passed from unknown circumstances, and the world wept. After his death many feared there would be a fight for the Throne of Kings, power-hungry warriors and creatures from the deep appeared, destroying all in their path as an effort to prove their worth as a leader…

These warriors came from eight main cities, ruled over by the seven different races… Do not worry if you forget the details, they are within a guide on humanoid races called ‘Extraordinary Adventures in Humanoids Races and the World that Defines them’, but for now I will give you a brief description of each race to help with the progression of our conversation…

The first notable race is the Water Villagers [Cormi] which are a humanoid race who has the ability to breathe underwater and have increased speed in any watery mass. The Cormi rule of the floating city of Trigon and are commonly referred to as the rulers of the sea, with the angelic knight Nazariel as their creator… In her time, she was the kindest and one of two who did not want to participate in a war.

The Rock Gladiators [Themes] were known for their intense strength and their mastery of weapons, they rule over the mountain city of Devrim and are rulers of the mountains. Their creator was the other angelic knight who wanted to avoid war Boldeer; he was a strong god with interesting nature.

The next race is the Undetected Royals [Dyth} who have an unhealthy fascination with class systems, they reside in the Dead City and are known for diving into the dark arts and ruling over the dead. They may also have a little bit of a necromancy problem, but their evil leader Millithacent has kept it under control as one of the only known immortals to escape her prison… Though all of them could have as it has not been recorded.

In the Crystal Forest, nearby the Lone Travellers survive by interacting with nature and have filled the treehouse with small houses; they commune with nature that protects them from violent visitors. They started as thieves and living the gipsy lifestyle till Trixx the angelic knight shrouded the forest with protective magics and decided to call it home.

The Regal seers [Unma] spent many years trying to decipher such magics but stuck mainly to the coastal areas of Devon. They are nomads and never stick to one place for long, but there are rumours that they have built a stronghold in the Gornak Caverns, with Reenian the Bloodthirsty watching over them… He was known as a bloodthirsty killer with no moral compass.

Lastly were the main protectors of the land, The Wind Rangers [Gren], their main city was the city of Lemu in the Windswept Forest and was next to the biggest city on the continent of Devon. Zaceri was the chosen one to protect the lands and was the final angelic knight to be imprisoned.

That does lead me to inform you of Harillio… It is a place that praised the name of Zaceri, and now it has been transformed into a city of peace, where all the races are allowed to meet as long as their intentions are harmonious. The council of every race who often live there decide the justice system inside of the city, but occasionally return to their main cities to spread the word of what is happening within the city grounds. Inside of the grounds, there are three main areas, ones the lower quarters where the poor live and some of the medium class who don’t mind associating with people below their status. Then there was the middle section called the Trade Union where the traders would live and sell their goods to the many travellers who pass through or visit Harillio. Last was the Upper Quarters where the wealthy and important icon reside and associate, many fancy-dress events are held in the higher areas.

The city lived in peace for many years and still have not formed an army to defend itself, but the Wind Rangers have vowed to protect the city with their lives if the time ever came to do so. Though to be honest the city has a rather strong defence system, the walls are made out of the hardest metal found, and they have towers with motion-sensing basilisks attached, but the wizards must be stationed inside of the towers for them to be able to fire. There have been very few attacks, and usually, they are performed by small armies of renegades that doesn’t even make a dent in their defences. But to the classes, there is a peace treaty where all races have promised never to attack Harillio…

Now I know that I have only discussed the cities in the Devon Continent, but honestly, the other continents aren’t highly populated, and the ones that have a decent population seem to be able to find a way to be peaceful and not want to conquer the entire continent.

Now the important thing… Where my temple is situated. It is actually quite close to the Harillio City; I was so excited to find that it was so close to the city of peace. My temple is surrounded by rare enchanted cherry blossom trees, two long rivers running parallel to each other and on either side of the path to the doors. The temple itself is made of a mixture of enchanted rock, light marble, crystal fragments and the doors are made out of the purest titanium and are locked with thousands of magical trigger mechanisms that are older than any living creature… There is no point trying to climb into my temple either; the walls repel steel spikes into anyone it thinks is hostile, which unfortunately is most humanoids… It’s impenetrable… But inside my temple, there are many wonderful treasures, the Golden Throne of Ages and an ancient statue of myself. This temple has never been breached, and if I have anything to do with it, the temple will never be opened… For I would send the very wrath of all the gods down upon the person or people who try, they will see the pure innocence of curiosity be their downfall. I would rather let out a demon of pure evil than let a bunch of vandal’s ruin or steal from my temple.

Oh, I am sorry for getting a little off-topic, I do take great pride in the knowledge that I am an important enough God to have my own temple, but please sit, and I will continue… Where was I? Oh right…

    CHAPTER ONE

Chaos is at our doors… Trying to reach the very heart of the gods, striking fear into the bravest of our mighty warriors. The mighty guardians once prayed to me for his time never to come; they were hoping they would be spared. They hoped that I would save them from the war soon to come and yet I do not possess such power. For I can not change fate, fate is something that none of us can determine and can not be altered no matter hard one is to pray to any god…

The intruders were users of some rather high-level black magic, which they persisted in using against the doors and every spell they would cast seemed to only place a small dent in the doors. As many will know if you are to dent the same spot over and over again, it will create a path of cracks spreading throughout the marble door panels, then that part of the door will become vulnerable, and only a small amount of pressure will be needed to breach the temple. A problem which I personally do not like and will see to, especially because as you know a temple to a God is sacred, and it would be like forgetting the importance of faith and belief.

Outside of the temple stood three middle-aged men in navy velvet waistcoats, with pointed indigo hats and a canary yellow feather poking out of their hats and off to the side… Lastly, they were wearing a cannery yellow gloves with gold detail that looked like they had custom made for high-level solution specialists. But the fact was they were not the leaders to this heinous crime, they were just under the orders of a rather more intelligent man. Then slowly they stood in a straight line in front of the door, standing tall as if they were waiting for something or someone to arrive. As they did an old wrinkly man with a twirled moustache, a fancy wooden cane with the crest of an eagle and a plain coloured suit from the upper-class collection walked over to the temple’s doors… Examining it. Well men, it would seem that we have ourselves a little predicament now don’t we, The little old man said in a calm scratchy high tone, But nothing that you fine men candle handle I am sure.

Yes, of course, sir, it will be destroyed momentarily… I can promise that, Agreed the first man in velvet.

In a blink of an eye, it will disappear sir, The second exclaimed.

Not a moment too soon, The third chimed in getting into a less poised position, the second man slapped his back, and he went back to his proper stance.

The old man pulled out a pair of old reading glasses and walked up close to the doors, looking at the writing scrawled off into every edge. He pressed his hand into the middle of the scripture and scratcher his head in wonder.

Very good… It says, once these doors have been broken, the beast within will awaken, and it will force the seven to arise once more… Hmm, I am sure it is none of our business, not as if we believe in that bollix, don’t worry men everything will be absolutely fine, He exclaimed with an old wrinkly grin, placing his glasses back into his pocket, Well then… Do hurry up; we don’t have all day you see. I would like to be able to visit my dear friend in Harillio but the tie of tomorrow mornings grand celebration.

    The old man walked…

Down the many stairs leaving the three men to finish odd the job that they were assigned to. They quickly returned to their work, casting spell after spell at the door, not giving it a moments rest or any chance of it trying to protect itself. They were casting curses and weather enchants, elemental blasts and even a levitation spells and yet it only seemed to leave small cracks.

Then just as the third man in velvet shot a directed lightning bolt at the door, it cracked… The
