Acknowledgement
This book has been a project of mine for quite some time and now the first of the ten books series is here for everyone to read.
I would like to thank Brian Nelson, my long-term mental twin/best friend/brother, who has helped me through so many writers blocks it’s not funny.
To my beautiful daughter, Rose Bybee, and my two wonderful adopted daughters, Alexia Harris and Kimberly Northrup, who have always given me encouragement to keep going on, thank you.
Prologue
The world in its infancy had us, the three races, to make their homes within its glory. The massive Dragon race - keepers of time magics, the Fairies - masters of the healing magics, and then us the Celestials, leaders of knowledge and peace. We lived in a great time of peace and friendship with each other, but our time in this world made us grow lonely.
We cried out to the Creator of all things that we needed something more and greater than what we had to aid in our existence, new and exciting. The Creator had heard our cries and soon we saw new races start to be born. The Dwarfs and the Gnomes came and made their homes in tunnels of the rocks of the great mountains. Three races of Elves came next. There were the Wood Elves of the forests, the Dream Elves that had their time in the rays of the moon with a ritual that let them bring forth the new generations and the Angelic Elves. The Angelic Elves’ beauty was rivalled by nothing and they were the most brilliant and majestic form of Elves. They had wings that added to their grace and had a great deal of healing magics that aided anyone who needed them.
Next to be created and placed in this world were the Ogres, Trolls and Cyclops—giants all of them. They came and made their homes within some of the forests and most of the caves located in smaller mountains. Then came the Centaurs, Nymphs, Mermaids, Satyrs and more great magical creatures. Then the last race that was given to this world were named Humans.
The Human race was like no other that had come before them; their wants were great, and when they came across the smallest bit of power, they wanted more. Most of the other races learned to work well with one another, rarely relying on the guardians to solve their quarrels. The Humans, on the other hand, brought more anger to the world within their ranks and small portions of it grew within the hearts of the other races.
Their anger and lust for power started to influence some of the other races but not on a scale like their own. Within all of their race, it was surprising that there were a few who had a redeeming quality that offset the rest. With all of the anger that came with their race, they also brought more powerful things within them.
They had great hope and great love that became a bright light within their own darkness. The cry of our people to the Creator of all was definitely heard. Our wish was fulfilled, but a flaw that we found was greed.
Were we so selfish and full of greed that it has made us solely responsible for this? Oh how foolish we were.
Chapter One
A Presence Felt
Can you sense it?
a soft female voice said at almost a whisper. She came into a room that was at the end of a long hallway leading into a great room that was in the shape of a triangle. On either side of her were males. All three of them were of the guardian race called Celestials. They were the head of the race: Thillia, the eldest, to her left was her brother Kolre, and to her right was her other brother, Balri. Both looked the same for they were twins which in the race of the Celestials was a thing that had never happened until this point in time.
The guardian race of the Celestials was a magnificent one. Their bodies did not really match any other race, yet the closest race that came to look like them were the Elves; they were somewhat Human as well.
Their skin was translucent to a point where it seemed as if it was made from the space around the planet. When they walked, their skin would move as the night sky would, with what appeared to be small glimmers of white light throughout their skin. It was like stars were within them.
Their arms were elongated to a certain point like that of the Moon Elves but came only a half an inch shorter. Their legs were three and a half feet to four feet long, making them one of the tallest races that walked the planet.
The one thing that separated some of the Celestials from the others was their hair. The colours ranged from a mystical blue, to a solid black, to a brilliant silver. There was only one different colour from that of all the Celestials and that was the hair of their leader, Thillia. Her hair was in curls and was a shining blonde colour brighter than that of any other races—a pure, refined gold colour.
Thillia saw that her brothers were sitting on the floor, meditating: Balri with his eyes closed and Kolre with his eyes open.
Sense what my sister?
Balri asked as he stayed so still, he looked like a mannequin.
I feel something coming my brothers, something that I can only describe as an anger that is beyond anything that we have seen. Something… evil.
We have not felt a presence of such evil nature, sister,
Kolre said as he turned his head to look at Thillia as she moved further into the room.
She went towards the highest part of the room, sat down on a thin, padded rug and closed her eyes to start to meditate.
We must link our minds to sense what I have been feeling.
The three of them, with their eyes closed, started to join their minds in a deep meditation to all look at the thoughts of Thillia.
Their bodies slowly lifted off of the pillows that they were sitting on and a small white glow surrounded them as they looked into Thillia’s mind.
After a short time had passed, a knock came on the side of the wall; it was a Celestial that came to them with news for all three.
The leaders slowly came down from the air and the glow dissipated as they opened their eyes to acknowledge the messenger standing at the entrance of the room.
The Council of twelve requests your presence my lady.
Is it the Humans again?
The Humans, yes, but the Dwarfs and Trolls as well.
That is unusual for the Dwarfs to request help,
Balri said, looking at the messenger.
The Council said it is of utmost importance,
the messenger responded. He turned around and walked out of the room and headed back to the chamber of the Council.
I am still concerned about the evil,
Thillia said. They stood up, walked out of the temple and started to head to the Council’s chambers.
The land of the Celestials was unlike any other place on the earth. Their home was a realm within the realm of earth. They had hidden themselves from the world, just as the Fairies and Dragons have done.
The world that they lived in was always in the state of twilight, with great blues mixed with a shimmering purple with all of the colours in between. There in the sky of their realm were small star-like lights that surrounded them, lighting the place a little. Along all of the walkways and next to the houses of their people were white lights attached to the ground. They floated in a fixed position, lighting the way to wherever they wanted to go.
The ground was that of a soft forest floor, but no imperfections were anywhere to be found, so here was no need for shoes that the Celestials had to wear.
I felt something sister, only for a second but when we were linked, I did feel something… dark,
Balri stated.
The feelings of the Humans are manifesting in the rest of the races it seems, where will it end?
Kolre asked.
They walked into the room where the Council was and saw that there were two Human representatives, a representative from the Trolls and three from the Dwarfs.
I am sorry to report, my leaders, that there was a fight in the mitts of the Humans and Trolls. Trolls were forced to defend themselves and four Humans were killed,
one of the Council’s members stated as the three siblings sat down at a table to the right side of the room.
What happened in this situation which they were forced to defend against?
Thillia asked. While all of this transpired, the human representatives were for the most part silent through the whole proceeding.
We, Trolls, were making trade with Dwarfs when Humans came to stop the trade,
the Troll started. He was one of the those who had fought and had a good slice in his left arm from the fight. His blood was still stained on the bandage that was covering the wound.
Dwarfs, what say you to this?
a Council member asked.
We were in the negotiations with the Trolls of our stones for their lumber and hay when the Humans came and tried to assert themselves as the better buyers of what we’re trading for.
Tell us Humans, why would your people do such a thing as to interfere with something that is nothing of your concern?
We need those things and we are willing to pay in gold from our lands,
the Human stated as he moved forward to talk to the Council member.
Was there such a need that you had an incursion with the Trolls that ended in your people’s deaths?
They… they started it.
The Humans and others were debating, only to strengthen the bad reaction of the human race.
While the bickering was going on, Balri was receiving a message but from where, he could not know within that moment. It wasn’t a truly verbal communication, it was images of certain things. Then it happened — a simple word with an image of fire came to Balri.
Evil.
The word came to him in a voice that he had never heard before. The image of fire came to him with a pain in his right temple.
The pain that he was feeling was of such annoyance that he had to place his right hand up to his head where the pain was starting.
Brother are you okay?
Thillia asked, noticing her brother wince in pain.
I shall be fine sister; I must go rest,
Balri whispered. He got up from his chair and swiftly walked out of the room with no attention drawn to himself as the Humans were trying to defend themselves to no avail.
It was three hours of the Humans trying to get the goods that were being traded. In the end, they lost their argument and with that, all of the parties were dismissed. The Humans left with nothing but a small hatred towards all who were in the room.
Thillia and Kolre went back to the temple where they found Balri sitting and meditating.
Brother, you felt it didn’t you? That was the pain you felt in the Council’s chamber.
There is something that is coming to this world in a worse way than anything that we have had to deal with before,
Balri confirmed. He was now feeling more of the presence of the evil than his sister was.
Should we tell the others?
Kolre asked his sister in a sense of worry.
I think that we must tell them. If something is coming that we have never seen before, all of the guarding races should be aware of it.
I will tell the Dragons about this; it has been some time since I have spoken with Shileo. It will be good to see him again even though it is under strange circumstances.
I shall seek an audience with the Fairies. Sharest is close to me and will know how to prepare for something like this,
Thillia
