My name is Jacob and I am a aspiring writer,Yes I know we all say that and then we end up in one of those jobs that pays the bills, but I love working in Childcare, so I got the happy job. I love my job, but my passion is writing and has been since I was eleven year old and was running around my adopted family's property yelling and screaming, acting out my pages. I fell in love with story telling and always forget how to spell 'Story'.My other interests are graphic art, childcare, photography, music, movies and video games. I would refer to myself as a happy go lucky socially awkward geek who likes to makes others laugh... therefore I aplogise for all the death in my books and future books.... and pretty much everything I write. I know I am weird and different and I have embraced that in my books, so please enjoy!

Eros at War - Jacob Davies

    EROS AT WAR

    BY JACOB DAVIES

    CHAPTER ONE

    2007 AD

    CITY OF CHANSE’WEL

VERR [THE CENTRE OF THE VOID]

Every one has a rite of passage; like a human woman getting the chance to be presented at a debutant, a gang member getting a gang tattoo to show their alliance or a father showing his son how to traverse through a strip club. It is all about being shown you are part of something bigger than yourself, knowing that you have people who care for you. For me it was once I turned eighteen human years, that was when I had to make a choice as a Lythean and receive my wings of light, being part of an elite faction of my people who wanted to protect others, the Tempest. I am one of very few of my species; our population is nowhere as large as the Human Race… Most of my people don’t understand the fear of questions; I, however, had my life planned for me being a pureblood.

So, you may be asking, who am I?

I am Eric Valentine, and you celebrate a day that is dedicated to my birth every year, you humans show that even under the strangest circumstances love can get you through just about anything… Though religion will tell you that it is a day celebrating Saint Valentine. You may have the misconception that I am a baby in a diaper with a heart bow and arrow, although I really just look like a normal Lythean without any obvious forms of weapons. Some people refer to me as Cupid, though my friends like to call me Eric and the scholar freaks who I personally never like to talk to like to call me by my more appropriate name, Eros or the Angel of love.

With that on my Eighteenth human year birthday was the most important day of my life, it was the day I had to make a big decision on my training as a Tempest and the day I could possibly receive my light wings. My options were to either protect the world from the Shadow Creatures travel to the human world where I was to protect the Human Race from time irregularities or commit my time to others in the City of Chanse’wel.

But being that I was young and foolish, with a rebellious attitude, I just wanted to explore things and experience what life had to throw at me if I threw caution to the wind. First, I decided it was best to discuss these sorts of things with the only people who knew me, my mother Aria Featherind or as she is known throughout the City of Chanse’wel, Aphrodite.

    ARIA FEATHERIND’S OFFICE

    CITY OF CHANSE’WEL

VERR [THE CENTRE OF THE VOID]

Before my mother had me, she had a beautiful office that resembled that of a hard worker, then when I was created, she decided to embrace the whole Aphrodite thing and become what the humans call her, the goddess of love. She embraced the whole gold and white decor, with roses and birds…

My mother was sitting on her throne made of pure rose gold with flowers entwined; there were two Tempest either side of her holding palm fronds and a bowl of freshly picked grapes. She was listening to her schedule as read by Chirip her adorable young, female assistant... Though all she had at that time were a bunch of parties, dinners and a few guest appearances at random human nightclubs. In the human world, my mother was well-known socialite by the name of Ariana Valentine, so even when she was in her office, she was busy placing the next event to attend.

Mother, you look nice… Appropriately dressed. I see that you have moved away from office attire, I said walking up to her throne steps and leaning over to her to give her a small peck on her cheek, then stood in front of her once again. The only real way to get through to my mother was to comment on something important that she had done or something interesting with her appearance and for some reason, my mother's appearance was always on her mind after creating me… Something about her being self-conscious.

Thank you… You are so sweet. I’m trying a new cleanse… It’s a human thing; they deprive themselves of something in life or force themselves to drink or eat something. It is supposed to be all-natural but who knows or cares, as long as it works, She said, smiling while one of her guards feeding her a peeled grape. She caressed his arm with a single finger, getting him a strange smile like they had a secret and then glanced back at me. I never approved of my mother's choice in sexual male partners, especially because she had no issue showing public displays of affection in front of her own son and the only male figure I ever liked was my father, Herc. At least she had moved on from seducing human males, especially because it was said that it was almost impossible, but hey without her skills in flirting I would never have existed.

Well I guess, from the looks of things it is working, I looked to the side at a young Angel in white robes, and she immediately rushed over to them with an excited expression and flutter of her dress, she sat next to them in a chair and waited, What do you think I should do about my decision tomorrow? I mean this choice will define me for the rest of my eternity; it's just so final. You chose a life and moved up till you were one of the highest Time Keepers and I know that's not my path… Being a Tempest is just so different.

Oh yes, my pride and joy will finally choose a path to follow… Finally found his place in this wonderful city or move to the human planet that I created myself, She shooed away the two Tempest who was wearing nothing but white loin clothes that draped down to their knees and continued, I can’t tell you how to run your future, but I do believe when it comes to this decision you must take into account your personality. Your attributes could really guide you along the right path… Knowing what you truly want is important, and you should not put yourself in a place of uncertainty.

But mother you never really chose your path… You were one of the first to ever exist. You ended up being able to visit the human world and come back to our world without even batting an eye. Soon learning that the world of humans can be easily run with influence, you had a better path and your choice was easier, I pointed out and then noticed that everyone around us had left us alone, it was now just an intimate moment between the two of us, which was rare. We hadn’t had that sort of experience in a very long time, not since I asked my mother who my Father was, and she very gracefully declined the conversation. That, of course, didn't stop me from finding out their identity, I'm not thick, and with a little questioning of other Time Keepers, it was answered a half-human and half Lythean.

Indeed, I did, and though I still find it hard to juggle two lives, I barely have had enough time to get to know my dear son and figure out what you are doing in your day to day. I wouldn’t want to put that sort of pressure on anyone and neither should you experience it… One of those micromanaging mothers, She explained, she was trying to make me see the displeasure of running two lives and how much pressure it would start to put on my mental state. Though I must admit it is pretty hard to find a Lythean that has a mental problem and is still referred to as an angel, most have either lost their wings or embraced their dark side turning to the Shadow Creatures for guidance.

So, you think I should make only one choice… Reject the freedom that comes with being my own person and play by the rules because it will supposedly be better for me in the long run… That’s just not me, I want to be free and not have to deal with the rules laid out by the higher-ups, I responded, I didn’t want to be affected by the Lythean rules, answering the questions of others and falling into line because that is what everyone was doing.

Dear, I chose my paths out of obligation, your Father chose his path out of boredom, and I want you to choose your path out of thought and with a strong reason behind it, She said, this was the first time she had mentioned my Father without throwing something out the window, see even a Time Keeper can learn from past mistakes and not stand by their ego.

I suppose mother, thank you for your time, I said, finishing off our meeting and kissing her on the hand, before leaving her in peace. It was all rather confusing for me, and though I know my mother was trying to be helpful, she just left me with more doubt.

Even after the meeting with my mother the thought of my impending decision still weighed me down like weights when exercising, the one choice that would change the rest of my life, and it had to be made in such a small period of time. I couldn’t do what most Lytheans do and follow the path of their parents as mine were encouraging me to make my own decisions and not follow them, they were first and were practically assigned their position. However, I got the choice…

It comes down to my opinion, because if I was to go to Earth, then I would have the pleasure of interacting with humans and learning their ways... Blending in and becoming one of them. The downside, of course, being who I am I would have to be on the job every moment of the day, I wouldn’t be allowed to fall in love because the only people I would see would be humans. It is looked down upon to fall for a human being, many Lytheans before me have fallen in love with humans before, but it was approved. Lytheans are a highly evolved race and to mix that with the Human Race is dangerous, that is how Hybrids are created and how a rebellion between the pure and un-pure is started.

Then there is the option of staying at the City of Chanse’wel as a royal guard to some of the most important Time Keepers, you refer to them as Gods and sometimes refer to the Tempest as angels. That would mean I would have one of the highest respected jobs in my profession, learning how to protect one of the most important people in all of our history and the downside is that I would never be considered as a viable candidate to go down to another planet. Another negative is that I will have to listen to the Time Keepers drone on about the Human invention called the bible and all of their other creations, still not having enough time to have a love life of any kind anyway… Practically be married to the job.

The last option was to stay in my world and coexist with other Lytheans, giving me the option to work with my mother while still maintaining a relationship and learning the ways of the ‘Angels’. That can branch off into working in an office, training others or fighting off the evil that threatens our gates, many different paths that would lead to many different decisions. The only downside to that is I would have to be bound by the rules of the Lythean ways; it would feel like I am in a very friendly cage that’s made of white fluffy clouds. I warned them that if you want to be intimidating maybe making their new cages out of 68% cloud wasn’t exactly going to strike fear into people, the whole time all I can think of is cotton candy, and that is so scary I just peed myself. I know they only did it because the prisoners were slamming themselves against the bars and ended up doing a lot more damage than any of our torturers were doing.

…If you were my position, which decision would you make? It’s bad enough that we have to choose to align with the light or the darkness, and then they ask us where we want to spend the rest of our lives. They only started giving us that choice because so many were turning to the shadows or evil, because it was different, and it had never been a choice. Out of respect for my mother, I knew I was going to choose to be on the good side, it was pretty unheard of an Angel of love turning bad. Also, my mother only had one child every ten thousand years give or take a thousand years, Lytheans can in a way age whereas the amount in which we age compared to humans is a lot less and a lot slower.

    CITY OF CHANSE’WEL

VERR [THE CENTRE OF THE VOID]

These were many thoughts that rushed through my head as I walked back to my place that I shared with my mother or as she liked to call it our castle of love, I knew that I would need to rest to really get the right insight into what was the best choice for me. Along the way home I saw Gaia sweeping her porch after returning from her trip to one of the planets, Derek and Killeot, the only twin Lythean, were doing some weapons training in one the parks, and there was a group of tempest trainees were all lining up to one of the stadiums. I then saw
