INTRODUCTION
What is a MasterMind group?
Since the Gestalt psychologist Kurt Koffka first introduced it in 1935, the saying that the whole is something else than the sum of its parts
has greatly affected our way of thinking in the western world. Most people cite the phrase incorrectly, replacing the words something else
with greater
. But the point is, shortly put, that we can’t comprehend the contribution of the whole as a simple addition of its parts. That is also the heart of what makes a MasterMind group: a small number of people, who gather to give and take advice on each one’s private and business lives. The solutions a MasterMind brain
will enlighten are an all different matter than those a single man’s brain can.
If you stumbled on this book, chances are you’d like to evolve your own mind, to grow big with a project of yours or just improve your everyday life through different and new ways of thinking. If you take a look at the past, you’ll find that most history famous people joined in their own MasterMind
groups. These gatherings have been around for hundreds of years, under different names. To name one, the 17th, 18th centuries French Salons
, where the intellectuals of the time gathered to debate on the daily news and issues.
Today, a MasterMind group is most likely composed of 6 to 8 people, who regularly meet in person or via online means, to help each other solving their problems. In turn, they discuss their own personal issues and let the other members of the group propose their solutions. A popular standard of conducting a MasterMind group gives the person who is talking about themselves the so-called role of the hot seat. The hot seat moves from one member to another every time the group gathers. Thus, if you participate in a MasterMind group, you will be in the hot seat every 6 or 8 meetings, depending on the group size.
That’s the traditional definition of a MasterMind group that you’ll find when surfing the web. Although, there are different forms such a group might take. Reading through this book, you’ll get to know my own original twist to it. Indeed, I didn’t want to go through entire weeks of meetings with the brand-new group I created. Instead, I wished to create an all different context, far away from the problems of everyday life, where everybody could feel free to talk about their issues in a more relaxed way. That is something you can’t easily obtain with a regular MasterMind meeting schedule. Thus, I planned for the setting of a group vacation where we could also apply the Mastermind format rules.
This book might help you create a MasterMind group in a general way, but it will be heavily focused on how to arrange it in a vacation setting.
Why should you join a MasterMind group?
The main reason for joining a MasterMind group is the wish for personal growth. Indeed, that’s a perfect setting for challenging ourselves and our way of thinking, bringing in brand new ideas and different twist to our lifestyle. However, there can be other reasons you might want to join a MasterMind group. For
