About this ebook

After being alluded to many years ago in Rhymes Through Time, I have completed QUIET! Please?, the third book of Jasmine's Wish. This selection of poems is arranged in categories as are the first two books in my "Jasmine's Wish" series. My voices have been writing poems for my entire life. Their constant jabbering is taking its toll. Despite my begging and pleading for quiet, they keep talking. Come on over and see how they can write about anything at any time. The categories may be set, but the topics are as varied as grains of sand.

Author

Cindy J. Smith

I grew up in the country of Upstate New York and now reside in the boonies of Midwestern Indiana. I am a coffee-addicted truck driver (as if there was any other kind). I have written poetry all my life. The topics and poems just come into my head. I try to write in the first person for most of them. I do this as people are more apt to relate to something when they are not feeling like they are the target. Some of my poems are true, either for me or for someone I know. I believe in magic and that life is worth living. I hope that my words will touch every reader in some way. I want everyone to open their eyes and really see what is before them.

Quiet! Please? - Cindy J. Smith

    DEDICATION

    I dedicate this to Jasmine.

Had it not been for your encouragement, I never would have shared anything. I know you are smiling as you look down and see that I am doing as you asked. I love you and I miss you.

    Your belief in me

    Made this dream real

    A gift of love

    For others to feel

    Such is the magic

    You poured on me

    Opening my soul

    For all to see

    ALARM MIND

Mind why do you wake me?

    Why can I not sleep?

I've no job to go to

    No schedule to keep.

    Do you have some appointment

    Of which I am unaware?

    At this godless hour,

Do you need to be somewhere?

    I set no alarm clock,

Do not wish to be up.

I am the top dog here,

    So Mind just shut up!

    I am comfortable right here

    Snuggled down in my bed.

    Stop with having the voices

Put their rhymes in my head!

I want more time to sleep!

    Mind of mine come on,

    Leave me here in peace

So that I can dream on.

    PEOPLE IN MY LIFE

    LAST RITES

    For all those who sin

    Feeling no remorse

    Then depend on faith

    To clear their course

    Upon their deathbed

    Will admit their blame

    Believing their souls

    Become white again

    Think they'll find themselves

    Up among the saints

    When Hell welcomes them

    Find Satan ignores complaints

    COST

    When my dreams fell away

By me you vowed to stay

    Our friendship grew so strong

So what exactly did go wrong

Did we err with that tender kiss

Moment we shared filled with bliss

Did our hearts believe in more

Than what was really in store

Friendship lost by our own hands

    Once again alone I stand

Tears flow freely down my cheek

True friend I again must seek

    WAITING

    I had a dream

    I heard you say

    But doubt and fear

    Got in the way

    So now you think

    There's nothing left

    Lost and alone

    You feel bereft

    Look in your heart

    And you will see

    Your dream awaits

    Most patiently

    Grab on to it

    And let it shine

    It isn't gone...

    Just aged like wine

    ZACK

    I have been a Sheriff

    For many, many years

    Witnessed lots of drama

    And dried away some tears

    Nothing had prepared me

    For scene I came upon

    A one car accident

World I knew is now gone

My heart is in my throat

    I crumble to the ground

Please make it a bad dream

Not a truth I have found

    It is all so unreal

I try my best to cope

My son dead in my arms

I've lost all of my hope

    I'll miss you every day

Your bright smile and your touch

    Memories all that's left

Zack, I love you so much

    LIMERICK

There once was a lady from Ohio,

Who was asked to write her Bio,

When she looked at her pen,

    Found for erotica a yen

And wrote to make everyone Sigh...OOH!

    WHO IS WRITING?

    Do you write your life

    Or does it write you?

    The answer decides

    What's your point of view

    If you roll around

    Like a tumbleweed

    Going with the flow

    Paying world no heed

    Then life's the author

    The one that's in charge

    Running you over

    Like a big ole barge

    If you have deep roots

    Solid and secure

    Giving no quarter

    Living to endure

    Life is still writing

    It gives you no voice

    Decides your actions

    Leaving you no choice

    But if you're like grass

    Swaying in a breeze

    Listening to all

    Then do as you please

    You are the author

    You write every line

    Enjoying the years

    Aging like fine wine

    LOSS

    My heart is heavy

    For a friend so dear

    Her face is now lined

    With tracks of her tears

    World has been shattered

    Great joy is now grief

    No words can supply

    Her any relief

    Precious baby girl

    Already so loved

    Was called home by God

    To Heaven above

    Sweet little Angel

    Bring peace to your mom

    Let her feel your love

    Change heartbreak to calm

    WHERE IS HOPE

Slight breeze making the snowflakes dance

As they fall to the ground and join the slush

An old man shivers in the cold

His clothes, mere rags, offer no warmth

People glance his way then cross the road

As if his poverty is catching

He walks on, pretending not to see them
