Chapter 1: Introduction
Have you ever had a dream that seemed so difficult you thought it would be impossible to achieve? If so, did you pursue your dream or let it pass away with time? Many fall into the latter category, but there are others with similar dreams who summon all their willpower, passion, and energy into achieving those dreams.
What separates those who dare to dream and risk it all for success versus the ones who give up and let their dreams fall into obscure memories that make for regrets later in life? The succinct answer came from none other than Theodore Roosevelt, when he said:
The one quality which sets one man apart from another—the key which lifts one to every aspiration while others are caught up in the mire of mediocrity—is not talent, formal education, nor intellectual brightness—it is self-discipline.
You don’t have to live a life full of regret. Don’t let your past consume your future. With self-discipline, you will be able to face your fears, conquer your distractions, and stay focused on your end goal. To achieve self-discipline, one must first open their mind and be willing to assess their physical and emotional selves. This can be a difficult but rewarding process, and not everyone who attempts this makes it out on the other side without fully armed with self-discipline skills. It is a process, and processes take time to see results. If you’re familiar with the term practice makes perfect
, then learning self-discipline will be all about drilling those habits into your brain, until they become second-nature.
This book aims to show you how to build your self-discipline and apply it in every facet of your life. At first, it will seem daunting, but soon you’ll realize that through installing few habit and
