Introduction
It’s a tough world, and it gets tougher.
A day hardly goes by without hearing cases of astonishing events and crimes. Savagery has taken over humanity.
Murders and crimes of passion are the order of the day. You can never tell when you are going to be a victim of mass murder. A stray bullet can hit you anywhere, anytime.
Small, innocent children are killed in wars they did not understand. Lives and property are destroyed in terrorist attacks that the victims had nothing to do with.
To top it all up, the poor are getting poorer while the rich get richer. The poor man is oppressed, overtaxed, denied quality public services while the rich man benefits most from the same taxes.
How can you survive in the midst of all this evil and unfairness?
How can you maintain your sanity in a world that pushes you to the edge?

The philosophy of stoicism teaches that you cannot control the external environment and events. The only thing you can control is you and your response to it.
Stoicism means having peace and happiness in an environment that motivates a different response. It helps you cultivate the mental and emotional state necessary to handle this unpredictable world.
This book is going to tip you on the secrets of achieving emotional freedom by mastering six beneficial concepts: grit, self-compassion, anger and jealousy management, mental focus and goal setting.
Learning in itself cannot change your life, you have to practice it. By the end of it, you are going to have gained an immense power to conquer your emotions and live a fulfilled life, succeeding in all your endeavors.
Change does not have to happen at once. Overnight change is hardly sustainable. Instead, take small steps, with consistency and persistence; you are going to eventually adopt a new way of life.
When you backslide, do not waste time brooding over it. Get back on track. It’s not about being perfect, it’s about making effort.
Chapter 1: The Trait of Grit
Everyone has goals, dreams, and ambitions. Even the laziest people dream of the good life that comes with success.
Dreaming and making wishes does not guarantee its achievement. Different people attribute success to different things. Some believe it is hard work. Other people say it depends on I.Q, while most attribute it to talent.
How true is this?
You must have met the kind of people who always work overtime. They hardly sleep for more than four hours. They do not believe in taking vacations. They rarely engage in social chit-chat. According to them, every minute counts. They work hard but sadly, make no progress in life.
In sports, all participants are talented, but do they all win? What separates the losers from the winners?
How many geniuses have you met who have wasted their life away? You meet someone in the streets, have a conversation with them, and at the end of it you can’t help but wonder, With all his brilliant ideas, why isn’t this guy a billionaire?
The answer is in a powerful four-letter word: Grit.
