There is something strange and unique about writing. Something I can never quite understand or interpret. Someone once asked me if I meant any of what I wrote, if it based on life experience, if the stories I tell if my characters are real. To me they are, each story, each person, they are real in my writer’s mind and converse and argue with me daily on what is to happen to their lives. Reality is the bucket of cold water which is where no one knows my characters like I do, no one understands. Writers are forever alone; I have found out. For me the smiles and metaphors are ways of remembering, tormenting us almost with their unique life that needs to be written. What we write, we feel. We live, we experience. It’s a parallel world to ours, always. The other side of the mirror. What I write is real to me as my reflection. But then, crazy people see all sorts of things, don’t they? This book represents some of the tears I couldn’t cry, some of the terror behind my smiling eyes. This book exists because one night I told myself that I had to swallow up all the fear and pain around me, and once it was inside me I had to transform it all into something beautiful.

    Their Endless Love

    Chapter One

Eden stood looking at the picture on the laptop screen standing as far away from the offending machine as she could, afraid it might grow arms and legs and attack her, the little boy she loved like he was her own. Timmy, he was turning seven this weekend and Mark invited her to his birthday party. It has been two years since the divorce and she hadn’t spoken to him since the paper work was signed and filed. Moving closer to the computer and opening the email he send the day before.

    From: Mark McDonald

    Send: 02 October 2012 13:55

    To: Eden McDonald

    Subject: Timmy

    Eden

I heard you were moving back home from your mum.

We bumped into each other at the store when I took Timmy for ice cream

The moment he saw Hillary he started crying for you again and she told him you would be back home soon. I can assume she didn’t want me to know, Timmy told me.

I would like to take this opportunity to invite you for his birthday bash this weekend, he would like to see you as would I.

    Hope to see you soon

    Mark

Sighing as the doorbell rang and closing the offending machine and taking her carry-on bag, she moved to open the door, her flight back home leaves at eight and she had a long nine hours ahead of her. She would barely have time to rest before the party that afternoon. The drive to Heathrow Airport went by in a flash the rest of her boxes was shipped back home five days ago and had arrived safely at her new apartment. She would miss living in London, and the friendly people and she would miss working for Devon and Alice. But they needed her back in Seattle. They didn’t trust anyone else running the branch there, but they gave her a way out when it felt like all the walls were closing all around her. Handing her passport to the clerk at the gate she was shown to her seat and they handed her a glass of wine before take-off. Seeing Timmy’s face flash before her eyes she closed them trying to supress the heart break that followed every time she thought of him.

Allowing the wine to calm and warm her from inside she allowed the memories to flow through her since she received the email from Mark. She met Mark at a party his brother Logan was hosting for the graduating class. She got through finals and got her business degree and diploma in fine arts.

Her mother didn’t like the idea of her studying art and convinced her to get a degree in something else as a back-up plan. She met Logan in her freshman year and they headed it of right away. They were great friend until she met Mark who after their wedding had practically forbidden her to talk to Logan.

He wasn’t happy when they met for lunch one afternoon and she told him that she wasn’t allowed to spend time with him. Logan was furious and told her he knew this was going to happen, he wanted to call Mark on the spot and give him a piece of his mind, but she had to beg him not to do it. It would have complicated matters at home.

One afternoon coming home from work exhausted she just sat down in the kitchen with a cup of coffee when there was a knock on the door. Mark was in his study busy with a call. Moving to the door and silently willing the person on the other end to just go away she heard Mark scream from the study to just answer the door.

Heaven forbid that someone disturbed his work. She opened the door and looked at the woman standing in front of her with a little boy on her hip, he was sleeping unaware of what was going on around him. Her heart contracted when she saw the little angel sleeping. She and Mark never discussed children in the two years of their marriage, as soon as she brought the subject up he would get mad and leave for the rest of the night. He always made her feel like it was her fault that he left, he never talked about it again and went on like nothing had happened. Tearing her gaze away from the boy she looked back at the woman.

    How can I help you?

She was tired and didn’t want to deal with this woman. The woman looked over her shoulder to where she noticed Mark standing looking at the woman if the cat dragged her in. Turning her gaze back to Eden she smiled, I’m here to see Mark if you don’t mind.

She pushed passed her and entered the house walking straight to Mark who she saw looked tense and mad. Before the woman reached him, he pulled her on her arm closer to him waking the little boy with the force of his arm pulling the woman closer to him.

What do you want Summer? he asked as he looked down on her. Eden took in the woman’s appearance and felt a little unease surfacing up inside. They must have forgotten that she was still standing by the open door and the woman ran a red finger nail across Mark’s chest making him give her a seductive smile. He never smiled at her that way she noted to herself.

You need to take care of Timothy for a while, she said as her hand moved to his face tracing the form of his lips. He bit the finger that was on his lips and then as if remembering he had a wife he pushed the Summer woman away and looked back at her standing at the door.

The boy in the woman’s arms started to cry as if someone was hurting him. Without giving any attention to the little boy the woman continued, you need to take him for a few months, I received a contract and I must leave for Bangkok in a weeks’ time.

No, was all he said looking down on the crying boy, just keep that thing quite he said as he looked back at the woman. She saw the woman lift her hand coming down on the child’s back hard, echoing of the walls in the hall making the little thing cry in pain. Her legs moved as if on their own accord and she took the boy form her arms holding him to her chest slowly rubbing her hand on the place his mother just slapped him.

Eden give that thing back to Summer, Mark demanded. Eden felt her blood boil in her veins and looked up at Mark, in a calm voice she didn’t know she possessed she looked from Mark to Summer.

You two have some shit to sort out I will give him something to eat and drink.

Without looking back, she moved back to the kitchen and froze when Summer’s next words reached her ears.

Will I see you Friday Mark, we haven’t been together in two weeks and I miss you.

It wasn’t meant for her to hear but she did. Slowly turning back, she looked at Mark who was looking back at her fear and shock reflected in his eyes.

Mark what is she talking about? she asked softly trying not to upset the little boy in her arms.

Who is this woman? she asked again moving in his direction. His body went stiff his fists clenched at his side.

"She is nobody he said as he looked at the wall behind her he couldn’t even look at her. She felt the world crash down on her as she looked down at the little boy in her arms and at Mark. She was holding Mark’s son in her arms. He was having an affair. She tried blinking the tears away as she looked at them together, this could not be happening. She didn’t want to believe it. Summer gasped, and Eden looked back at her.

Nobody! Summer raised her voice towards Mark. The boy in her arms flinched at the sudden sound and she shushed him as she rubbed his back, making him relax against her. Summer was red in the face as she looked from Mark to Eden, nobody she hissed at him, turning her attention from Mark back to Eden,

I’m the nobody who gave birth to his son she said, I’m the nobody who he has been seeing before he even met you.

Quite Summer, Mark talked harshly to her, the woman flinched and moved a few steps back. Mark walked towards Eden extending his hand to her. Eden love it is not what you think he said a pleading note in his voice.

What I think, she said as she looked up at him.

You are cheating on me, the disbelieve in her voice as she looked from Mark to Summer.

You had a baby with her, looking down at the boy sleeping his head resting against her shoulder.

Y-you didn’t, the words died on her lips as she shook her head trying to keep the pain from her voice.

We have been married for two years I never...

Suddenly everything he did and said over the two years made sense, the late nights at the office, every time they had a fight and he left for the night, weekends he had to work on an important contract. The phone calls during the night when he thought she was asleep. The security pin on his phone and laptop, he was seeing someone else.

Without a further word, she turned around and walked to the guest bedroom, laying the boy down on the bed pulling a blanket over him. She knew she needed to face him, but there was nothing left to be said. They were probably laughing behind her back for the last two years.

Wasn’t she good enough for him? Looking down at the child in bed her heart contracted in pain, and she felt the tears fall from her face, forcing the sob back not wanting to wake him. How could she have not notice? Their sex life was not bad, but she knew something was missing but never did she voice her doubt regarding that matter. She never experienced sex with another man because Mark was her first and last and she didn’t know how it was supposed to feel like. It felt normal as far as she was concerned. Maybe she didn’t satisfy him enough.

She heard the door open behind her and lowered her head resting on her chest. She should have listened to Logan when he told her she was making a mistake that she didn’t know Mark the way he knew him. He knew about all this and he tried to warn her. Mark pulled her against him his hands resting on her waist as he kissed her neck.

Eden baby I’m so sorry he said as he moved her hair away to expose her neck more to his lips. The lips that kissed another woman. Her heart pounded in her ears as she pulled away from him walking out the door to the kitchen. She heard him curse as he followed her, the other woman still standing in the hall.

Without looking at her she stormed into the kitchen heading for the wine rack. She needed liquid courage for this. Without taking a glass from the shelf she opened the bottle drinking from it.

Eden baby… she spun around slamming the bottle hard on the counter as she looked up at him.

Don’t you dare Eden baby me she screamed at him. He looked shocked, she never raised her voice to him nor screamed at him since the day they said their vows. She never got mad. But then again, she had to be a very different person, he needed a trophy wife and he transformed her from the girl to the woman she despised to be.

He controlled everything she did. Her hair had to be worn and styled in a certain way, her clothes he even bought her shoes. The car she even drove was what he wanted. Anger surged through her as she looked at him. How could she have let this happen, even the way they made love he controlled it. He controlled every aspect of her live.

Taking another swig of the wine to try and restore some calm to herself she placed the bottle down softly this time. Her hands trembled as she removed her hands from the bottle.

I knew you were seeing someone when we met but I never thought the relationship continued when you asked me to marry you.

Wiping her hair away from her face, she lowered her gaze to the bottle, trying very hard not to cry in front of him.

You must have laughed your asses of at me for being so stupid believing you loved me, and what a fool I was in agreeing to marry you.

She heard the door open and looked up seeing Summer standing behind Mark, uncertainty written all over her face.

If I wasn’t good enough why did you take me as your wife?

A reminder from before the wedding came to her and she felt the blood drain from her face.

The money, she said as she looked back at him.

You needed the money for your business.

"Eden, I love you, not because of your money, it has never been about the money. She means nothing to
