About this ebook

Heal Yourself With Intermittent Fasting - Scott Ann

    Introduction

Fasting has been practiced for thousands of years. Every major religion in the world prescribes fasting for spiritual insights and overall health. Intermittent fasting is not about the food you eat, but the timing of when you eat. The first meal you take in the morning is called breakfast, which should be devoid of sugar and shouldn’t be heavy because it is assumed you fasted through the night. Breakfasts are sensitive meals and should not include cereal, oatmeal, toast with Jelly, orange juice, donuts, cinnamon roll, pancakes, waffles, bagels, pop tarts, granola bars because of high sugar level. Intermittent fasting intends to eliminate sugar, reduce blood insulin level and source for energy from healthy fats.

Fasting gives the gut the opportunity to heal itself. Giving your gut a break from digesting foods, provides the much-needed time for the digestive system to heal itself. It takes 65% of the body’s energy to break down food in the digestive system which results in the erosion of the gut’s mucosal layer allowing large particles penetrate the gut mucosal layers into the bloodstream. This could trigger a lot of health issues including autoimmune diseases.

The mucosal layer that is broken down every single time we eat finally gets a chance to recover with an extended period of inactivity in the guts. At the end of a fast, the gut is in a better position to metabolize nutrients because it has found the opportunity it needed to heal.

    Who Should Do Intermittent Fasting?

Anybody who wants to experience weight loss, balance insulin levels, balance hormone levels, get rid of brain fog, aid detoxification of organs, prevent aging and manage type II diabetes should do intermittent fasting. However, some people are exempted from intermittent fasting as a result of medical conditions e.g. pregnant women and people suffering from Anorexia.

    Why Intermittent Fasting?

Intermittent fasting is not a diet but a pattern of eating healthy foods. It is the most crucial factor in weight loss and cleansing of the body. It does this by influencing three essential hormones

    1.  It triggers Growth Hormone secretion to preserve muscles and fat burning.

    2.  It balances Insulin secretion – excessive insulin production leads to weight gain and insulin resistance. Insulin resistance by the cells is a precursor for Type II diabetes.

    3.  It increases the secretion of adrenaline for more energy.

    Types of Intermittent Fasting

There are four types of intermittent fasting namely:

    1.  Full Day Intermittent Fasting

    2.   Block Intermittent Fasting

    3.  Daily Intermittent Fasting and

    4.  5:2 Diet Fasting

    Full day Intermittent Fasting

It requires picking a day out of a week to fast. The entire day goes without food but water. You would get out of bed in the morning without breakfast but water and go back to bed at night without food, but with high water intake. This type of fasting gives the digestive system a whole day’s break for self-healing and allow the body to relax. However, it is not a suitable type of fasting for people trying to build some muscles, but for those who want to give their digestive system a break for gut recovery. Another advantage of this type of fasting is that it provides the body a 24 hour stretch for the production of growth hormone. It is a perfect plan for people who want to lose weight or are into athletics. Athletes have a lot of caloric needs and can’t afford to fast on a daily basis, making it ideal for them to pick a day out
