Introduction: book marketing ensures that you profit from your writing

Today, the competition for book sales on Amazon and the other book retailers is INTENSE. This means that unless you market your books, you won't sell many of them.

However, do remember that before you plunge deeply into marketing, you need to constantly create new content.

    Writing comes first, then marketing

We writers are in an odd position. Like all creative people, we produce what we sell.

Production comes first. Once you see the results of your marketing, it's tempting to go all-in. Before you know it, you're putting off writing, in favor of spending most of your time on promotions.

    Please don't do this.

Here's why: NEW sells. This means that you need to keep writing.

For an example of the power of new, browse your local supermarket.

All products have a life cycle. They're new, then they mature, and before too long, consumers are so used to seeing the product that they ignore it in favor of something else which is new.

Companies rebrand products which have matured. They add new ingredients, or simply repackage the old product, and create new advertising for it. They know that new sells better than anything else.

    To repeat: NEW SELLS.
