To my children, Ernie, Alexis, Markus and Kaylah and to my beautiful family, you are dearly and deeply loved. You have impacted my life in ways you will never know. Surely, without you, there would be no me and ‘My Journey’ says it all. I am overjoyed at the idea of being able to share tidbits of me through this gift of spoken word. May you laugh with me, blush with me, cry with me, love with me but more importantly, may you heal with me.
So much love,
Your mom, your daughter, your granddaughter , your niece, your cousin, your Auntie April
A Dedication
This is A Dedication to the first poem I ever wrote.
Thank you!
Thank you for giving voice to the flood of thoughts that would not let me sleep,
that would not give me peace, until I spewed out this verbage onto some willing sheep.
Initially, I believed my canvas to be those emotionally ready to receive,
but see my pen is the shaft, a pistol, a sword,
this sheath of wood lay willing as I impregnate with my word.
Giving birth to the DNA of my soul, various hues, textures, moods
no matter how low.
Whomever reads will know it is I who writes:
to warn, inform, ignite passion inside.
Now that I have given birth it seems that I cannot stop.
All I see, think and hear makes me wanna drop.
Drop what I’m doing and run to where you are,
to proclaim my feelings from a far.
See, I have become a wanton slave to the rhythm of the prose.
Ready to bare my inner thoughts wide open like a two dollar show.
But this drug, it brings release and healing inside,
preparing and strengthening me to experience a new life.
So again thank you!
Thank you for giving voice to the flood of thoughts that would not let me sleep because finally at last I have found peace.
24671.pngBook of Poems
A book of dreams, a book of poems,
a book of love, a book of storms,
storms of passion, storms of anger,
storms of confusion, storms of danger,
dangerous thoughts, dangerous deeds,
unrequited love, unmet needs,
Painful gains, unearned devotion,
solicited adoration, twisted emotions,
selfish motives, self-serving endeavors,
illegal affection, damages unmeasured,
hindered souls, scars beneath flesh,
walking wound, dying breath,
struggle to end, struggle to stand,
struggle to comprehend, struggle to end,
mismatched minds, undiscovered treasures,
misplaced trust, undeserved pleasures,
misunderstood love, wrong place-wrong time,
abnormally used, unable to shine,
frustrated tears, tears of exasperation,
years of tears, years of stagnation.
Ahh, breaking light, bursting dawn,
dawn’s first dew, luxuriously yawn,
taste what’s real, no longer a toy,
truly untouched, untapped pure joy,
exquisitely intense, unlocked passion,
tenderly handled, un-hasty fashion,
right hands, right mind,
right touch, right time,
emotions unleashed, true love unfurled,
divine release, display flawless pearl,
long awaited perfection, touch cool and smooth,
priceless value, unmarred by sinful grooves,
graceful beyond belief, beautiful to behold,
shackled never again, not even in days old,
bondage broken, attaining glory,
old ties severed, flying soaring,
soaring high, unfettered untouched,
shedding baggage, disabling crutch,
freedom yearned, explore the world,
clasp hand, guide innocent girl,
girl of youth, days gone by,
gone never away, in the heart still resides,
pacing, waiting, wondering, peering,
pensively thoughtful, no longer fearing.
Finally, heart unlocked, freely speak,
lips bring full voice, strong no longer weak.
I, yes, I have a love affair with my own words,
but not lifted up for all to estimate their worth.
And no its not arrogance to display admiration for one’s own words
as they have helped free me from this miry earth.
Cradling and soothing an aching soul,
so much experienced these words made whole.
I mean help is nice in times of need but what when you look around and no one you see?
So dig deep give your own self a hand, rescuing yourself from life threatening quicksand.
I feel the gift of word has been given to one and all,
so decide how much you’ll use, great or small.
Your words can be written for public inspection
or for inner growth and personal reflection.
That’s exactly what my words for me have done.
Its been arduous and painful, exhilarating and fun,
some things too dark to encounter, yet too late to run.
But now I can look back and see how far I’ve come.
I love the words in this poem.
They have helped usher me safely home.
They say what I feel. They say what I see.
They say what I need. They say what I be.
This is my book of love, my book of storms,
my book of dreams, my book of poems.
24676.pngReality Actually
I love life and all that is has to offer, whether good or bad (though the unfavorable moments don’t feel so good).
I try to have an optimistic view towards life’s situations, with an underlying belief that
