About this ebook
Carlotta L. Norton
Born to Carlton and Patricia Lynch, Carlotta Norton first arrived in the United States from Guyana at the tender age of fifteen. In spite of the challenge of being virtually on her own, Carlotta worked as a nanny/housekeeper while being a part-time student. Her relentless hard work paid off as she realized her initial goals of obtaining a green card by the age of twenty. Her commitment to education along with her drive for excellence led her to open her own business, a full-time childcare service where children of diverse ethnic backgrounds benefit from traditional and nontraditional methods of teaching in an environment that stimulates and promotes learning and tolerance. Mrs. Norton’s personal motto of working hard today to make provisions for tomorrow is reflected in the school’s curriculum. Carlotta’s focus extends beyond education, and her goals beyond profits. Her interests extend beyond education—encompassing personal care, mentorship, social consciousness, emotional growth, and spiritual wellness. Her philanthropy addresses a spectrum of community issues, ESL classes, child-rearing classes, time/money management training for new and expectant mothers, culinary arts, as well as food and clothing distribution to those in need. In addition, Mrs. Norton acts as a liaison for families migrating to the United States. Carlotta is the mother of three children and is happily married to Joseph Norton, whose love and support enable her to serve her community with gladness. She knows that her work is not done yet. She continues to use her love and devotion to God and to give and serve—making a positive and long-lasting impact on the lives of our nation’s children. Summing up her journey thus far, Mrs. Norton offers this advice: “Follow your heart, but know that God has the master plan.”

I married the man of my dreams, I have the most beautiful, smart, and wonderful kids, and most of all, I love the Lord. He’s the one who got me through that hell, that hell you have to go through to get your green card. What can a child do?
God is so great that he uses the brick the builders throw away to be the chief corner stone.
First and foremost, to God, for without his protection and love, I would not be here. I also thank him for all the angels he sent to look out for me.
To my husband, my children, my mother, and my Auntie Joy and Uncle Cedric. They all had faith in me and taught me the truth about myself and the world. I am now content, and with God’s help, I will continue to make a positive difference in children’s lives. Love—love is the most important ingredient in life. I give it in abundance every day.
This book is for women coming to this country looking for the American dream. We are mothers, sisters, wives, and women that provide for our family. There are two ways to make it down the road to the American dream. I chose the legal way. It was a rough and rocky road, but I did it. I know that God kept me close to him during those times, especially when all hope seemed gone and I wondered if he forgot about me, knowing that I had family back home that depended on me.
Failure was not an option.

I am a masterpiece made by God. I found out from an elder that your inside shows on your outside, so think great and wonderful things. Through who I am and what I want to do, I realized that there comes a time in all our lives when we might have to make tough decisions and have to choose what type of life we want. It becomes more and more apparent, and when you choose the life you want, you’re able to see clearly who fits in it and who doesn’t. You have to keep close to you what feeds you, what nourishes, protects, and keeps you strong, smart, and feeling good. If anything in my life is not doing what I want it to do, I change it. I stay away from drama. I walk and talk the way God wanted for me. I am a queen wonderfully made by God. He’s in charge of my life.
Still in the race, I’ve been bumped off track but I’m still in the race lifting my head up high I am still in the race been rejected lied to and neglected but I’m still in the race. I lost my self, precious hours and my position. I am still in the race although I’m stunned and shaken but I’ll finish this race with my fists in the air arms extended like a human airplane waving for joy, I will finish the race as I thank my God so grateful for his love protecting me from envy and rivalry the back biters
