Now faced with a twenty-five years to life sentence, there seems to be a ray of hope. Warden Benson offers Ben a once-in-a-lifetime deal: defeat the prison-yard boxing champion James Gates and Ben gets set free. However, this isnt as easy as it sounds. Austin Johnson

I am Austin Johnson. I am just a normal high school student from a small farm town. I have aspirations to make it big as a writer somewhere and hopefully you enjoy my work as much as my family and friends do. I could not have done this without the help of several teachers along the way, encouraging me to strive to be the best that I can be and don't settle for anything less than that. I never thought I'd be in the position I am today. A big thank you to everyone who helped me out along the way!

    Chapter 1

January 24th 2004. Atlantic City NJ,

That day changed my life forever. Most people remember it for Arturo Gatti courageously defending his WBC title. Me? I remember what happened to me afterwards. I was just a normal fan walking out of Boardwalk Hall. I was one in a Million, or at least I thought so. Then IT happened. As I was walking down the street late at night in New Jersey, See there’s the first mistake, I was confronted by a man. His appearance was scruffy, he was 5'7 shorter then me, but judging from his round middle and big arms was about 230-250 pounds. He was wearing a brown trench coat, nothing unusual it is late January. Then He said You, Nike shirt, Come here He was referring to me. I got within arms length of him. He reeked of Booz and it looks as if he hadn’t shaved in a week, giving him a rough appearance in the New Jersey street lights. I asked him what he wanted politely. He answered Give me all of your money and you don’t get to hear sparky here, talk He indicated the pistol in his belt. I stood there frozen for a minute, in sheer shock of what I just heard.

Apparently I took a little too long, he took the pistol from his belt and jammed it in my ribs, bringing me back into a frightening reality. He cocked the hammer on the gun, Make your move, or I will He said. Then I reached into my back pocket and say Mister, just hold on, I’m grabbing my wallet. He starts counting. 1… . 2. Hold on Mister I almost have all of it. 3, then without even thinking about it, I grab the pistol away from the man and he stumbles off balance. Sensing my opportunity I drew my right hand and I punched him right on the edge of his jaw. He fell to the ground. Desparate to regain control the man tries to grab his gun, that’s when out of pure instinct, I leap onto the man and throw a flying elbow to the back of his head. The man quit moving for a moment. Then seeing my chance I took the gun and held it and I didn’t know what to do. That’s when someone made a decision for me. Atlantic City Police, drop your weapon or I will shoot! I placed the gun on the ground and surrendered myself.

    Chapter 2

The man and I were put into separate Police cars. I looked down and my hands were shaking with the little light I did have in the car. The handcuffs were tight around my wrists. My adrenaline levels were coming back to normal. I began to feel tired and feel asleep in the Police car. That was a mistake, they clubbed my head to wake me up and dragged me out of the backseat. I landed face first into the pavement leaving my face with a gash on my left cheek. I got to my feet I was put into an interrogation room and I was handcuffed to the table. Bags were put around my hands and arms to save any possible evidence. Then two men came into the room. They asked Son do you remember any of tonight? I respond Yes, sir. Then he asked describe to me what happened to you. I explained to him what happened. Then The Officer said Do you know the kind of damage you did to that man? I shook my head no, too scared to answer. He answered You gave that man a severe concussion, a broken nose, two broken ribs, loss of consciousness and a broken finger. Yet you claimed he attacked you! While you were holding the gun when we got there. Now how on earth am I suppose to believe that. Because that’s the truth sir, I said. Yeah, funny you say that because that’s what the other guy said! The officer slammed his fists on the table. That’s when a third Officer came into the room. Sir, our other suspect is dead. A sinking reality hit us all, my hands and face went num, I passed out.

    Chapter 3

When I came to, I was in a different room. It wasn’t the interrogation room or any kind of medical room, it looked like an office. I was across from a desk and a chair, I was still cuffed to mine. Then a man sat down across from me, His breath smelled of cigar smoke, He asked me please fill out these papers. It will make things as easy as possible for us. Okay I said, Where are they? The man
