About this ebook

THE LAST TRAIN AT SUNSET is a book of short articles and poems that are easy to read. The author seeks to present the gospel of Jesus Christ to all who do not know it, who do not understand it, or do not understand the urgency of it. This message is urgent, because after life here on earth, eternity awaits each individual. Eternity will be in heaven or hell, but it does not have to be in hell; believing in Jesus Christ guarantees eternity in heaven. Choosing not to believe in Jesus Christ does not exempt anyone from the consequences of unbelief. The book also contains articles that will help any Christian in their Christian walk.

Pearl

Pearl has a BSBA/MBA, so education is important. As a new Christian she gathered all the information she could and began to delve deep into God’s Word. One lesson she learned was that you can get lost in the information; another was to ask God for direction and to question when something did not settle. Whenever questionable information came up, she asked God to direct her to go deeper or move on. After ten years of God building a new person from the inside out, Pearl began teaching the Bible in a way the Spirit inspired—turning yesterday’s lessons into today’s reality. She felt others would benefit from testimonies on what God did in people’s lives. This would offer an avenue of hope, awareness, and help to others. Pearl and her husband live in the Southeast. Both are involved in the Dynamic Joy ministry, as well as motorcycle ministry. Nothing you do eliminates you from becoming the person God meant you to be.

    THE SUNSET

Look! The sun is setting; listen to the train’s last whistle.

The train is about to pull out.

This could be the last train home; don’t miss it, get on board!

Look! The sun is setting; it is getting darker and increasingly dangerous,

Don’t ignore this warning; it could be your last opportunity for safety,

    Get on board!

Look! The sun is setting; the train is pulling out.

This is the conductor’s last call; this could be your last chance to get on board.

Don’t be hard headed; don’t be careless!

    Get on board. Now!

SALVATION INVOLVES THE WILL OF TWO

Synonyms for salvation include rescue and deliverance. The need for salvation implies that a person is in some kind of bondage. It is very clear that men and women alike are in bondage to sin, and need deliverance (salvation). If they don’t seek salvation, they will face God’s judgment (death), because the Bible says, All have sinned and fall short of the glory of God (Rom 3:23), and goes on to say in Romans 6:23 that the penalty for sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.

Salvation involves the will of two people; the will of the One who has been offended (God) and the will of the offender (the sinner). The law-giver (God) should be willing to forgive; the sinner should desire forgiveness. We know God is willing to forgive, because the Bible clearly says, "He (the Lord) is patient with you, not wanting anyone to perish, but everyone to come to repentance" (2 Pet 3:9b).

But Dear Friend, do you understand that you are a sinner (you are included in ALL)? If you are clear on that, do you desire to be forgiven? God has made His desire known! What is your desire? Do you or do you not desire to be saved from the bondage of sin? If you do, you need to make that desire known to God, just as He made His known. How about saying, Dear God, I am a sinner deserving to die, but I plead for mercy and forgiveness through the blood of Jesus Christ. Please cleanse me from sin and make me your child, in Jesus’ name. Pray that and believe in your heart that God has forgiven you, and God will do the rest (Rom 10:9).

On the other hand if you do not desire to be saved, do nothing; continue to live any way you want, the way you have always lived. God will not force salvation on anyone, but He will fulfill His promises, including the ones regarding sin and repentance leading to salvation, or disobedience leading to punishment/death. Since the Bible says, the Lord does not want any to perish, you clearly have the last word; you can choose to live or die. Just so you know; the type of death in question is not a physical death, but rather a never ceasing torment in hell. I admonish you to choose repentance that leads to forgiveness and eternal life.

    GOD WILL HONOR YOUR DECISION

God, the Creator of the universe, has the power and the right to make us do things His way. He could have made us robot-like, but He didn’t. He wants us to obey him out of respect, love, faith, admiration, and reverence. For that reason, He has given us the ability and the freedom to make choices. In order to prove that He really wants us to have the freedom to choose, He respects and honors the choices we make. We just need to know that the choices we make do have ramifications.

As humans, one of the many decisions we are confronted with, also happens to be the most important we’ll ever make; a decision that has eternal implications. That decision is choosing where we are going to spend eternity, which is after this physical life is over. It could be only one of two places, heaven or hell.

Well, with that freedom, the ball is in each individual’s court; we each have the last word concerning our destiny! What is it going to be for you, heaven or hell? Your decision will determine how you should live in preparation for that destiny.

If you’d like to spend eternity in heaven (highly recommended), here is what you need to understand:

    • You are a sinner, deserving God’s judgment (Rom 6:23), but God so loved you that He gave His only begotten Son as a substitute for you. He died in your place (Jn 3:16).

Here is what you need to do:

    • Admit to God that you are a sinner, There is not a righteous man on earth who does what is right and never sins (Ecc 7:20).

    • Ask for his
