As the Deer - Pamela Delph

    Introduction

This book was originally designed to be a follow-up for those who have recently received Christ as their Lord and Savior (a new Christian who just had become born again or born anew).

Many times, when I was leading someone to the Lord through preaching/teaching the Gospel and directing them through a prayer of salvation, I often found that I did not have any further access to them, never seeing them again. Hence, there is no continued ability of further input to disciple them (herein is trust in God and my prayers that he would be able to disciple them as he sees fit and connect them to the right fellowship). On these such occasions of evangelism, I wanted to have ready materials to hand them, which could point them in the right direction of discipleship in the interim for those not yet connected to a Christian assembly, church, or Christian mentor.

While writing this book, the feedback from others (family and friends) brought awareness of other possible uses for this book. Things that were discussed were the use for salvation(s) and the understanding of evangelism to those who are oversees or in other states and countries as well as a discipleship tool. Also discussed were uses for teaching and training in evangelism, classes for new members and new converts, and Bible studies on basic disciplines and studies on our Christian benefits (see sections 2 and 3 of this book). And so much more as this can be a handy tool for kingdom purposes.

It is my sincere prayer that many will come to know and understand the fullness of Christ Jesus as Lord and Savior, and become productive citizens in the kingdom of God both now and throughout eternity through the teachings and training of this book. May the Lord lead you and guide you in all that you do in him. May his grace be with you always.

And the peace of God, which passeth all understanding keep you hearts and your minds through Christ Jesus. (Philippians 4:7)

For this cause I bow my knees unto the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, Of whom the whole family in heaven and earth is named, That he would grant you, according to the riches of his glory, to be strengthened with might by his Spirit in the inner man; That Christ may dwell in your hearts by faith; that ye, being rooted and grounded in love, May be able to comprehend with all saints what is the breadth, and length, and depth, and height; And to know the love of Christ, which passeth knowledge, that ye might be filled with all the fulness of God. (Ephesians. 3:14–9)

    Section 1

    Salvation Experience

And as Moses lifted up the serpent in the wilderness, even so must the Son of man be lifted up: That whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have eternal life.

    —John 3:14–15

For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.

    —John 3:16

For God sent not his Son into the world to condemn the world; but that the world through him might be saved.

    —John 3:17

If you confess with your mouth the Lord Jesus and believe in your heart that God has raise him from the dead, you shall be saved. For with the heart man believeth unto righteousness; and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation.

    —Romans 10:8–10

What must we do to be saved?

The Gospel of our God is the Good News of how man can be restored to right relationship with God, having their sins forgiven and live in the way that God originally designed for us. The Gospel encompasses hearing the Gospel, believing, repenting, confessing of faith—believing in the death, burial, and resurrection of our Lord Jesus Christ as payment for our sins.

Hear the Gospel of Salvation in God

Man cannot save himself. God made a way of salvation.

To whom shall we go, you have the words of eternal life. And we believe and are sure that you are the Christ, Son of the Living God. (John 6:38)

(See also other biblical references to eternal life: Matthew 19:16, Luke 10:25, John 17:2–3, Acts 13:48.)

Man’s dilemma: Sin—eternal separation from fellowship and right standing with God.

Sin is wrongdoing, whether it is by things you’ve done wrong, left undone, or thought wrong that are contrary to or a breaking of God’s laws, commandments, and/or holy standards.

    Sin results in:

    1) right relationship with God being broken (eternal separation/death if not rectified),

    2) penalty/judgment for the offense(s) (God is just; therefore, he must punish sin. See: Exodus 34:7, Jeremiah 30:11).

Sin is being guilty of error/wrongdoing as defined by God. Without payment of sin, there will only be judgment, condemnation, eternal separation from God, and yes, hell for all eternity.

For I determined not to know any thing among you, save Jesus Christ and Him crucified. (1 Corinthians 2:2)

The Apostle Paul was adamant about one thing, Jesus Christ and him crucified. Why? Because without the crucifixion of Christ, there would be no payment great enough to pay for our sins. We would still be guilty today, only to be judged guilty at the Great White Throne Judgment of God and sent to hell with the devil and the fallen demonic angels.

Hell was originally made for Lucifer (Satan, the devil) and his fallen/unclean angels (demons) (Isaiah 14:9–17). Unfortunately, humans who refuse to accept Jesus’ atoning work and rebel against God will
