About this ebook

After years of being in recovery and twelve-step programs and seeing his friends dying, not so much from their primary addiction but rather from their crossover afflictions, Scott Morofsky came to recognize that the crossover afflictions plaguing humans were not being addressed. Drawing upon key elements from his own personal struggles and the struggles of his clients, through an adaptation of the traditional twelve-step recovery program, he created Wellativity and its 12 Principles, which target crossover afflictions such as obesity, smoking, lethargy, denial, procrastination, extremes in exercise, eating disorders, and any behavior that inhibits wellness. Scott Morofskys book introduces us to the concept of Wellativity, whose core focus is communication, optimal well-being and body, mind and spirit fitness. He expertly guides us in the practice of the 12 Principles and shows that through continual communication with ones Higher Power, professional therapist, doctor, and/or any trusted and caring individual, we will become In-Powered and transformed to a healthier state of being. Included is an unprecedented, proven effective, breathing-conditioning program that incorporates key elements of the 12 Principles into daily readings defined as Wellativitys Daily Breath.

    Chapter Outline

    Chapter 1: Principle One

An admission of truth about where we are regarding our health and fitness is the key point addressed here. Until one gets honest about his or her conditions, all else will have minimal long-lasting benefits.

    Chapter 2: Principle Two

Understanding that God within us knows exactly what is needed to help restore our health is the combination of faith and the truth that help is waiting for our willingness to surrender. Then the journey back to wellness on all levels can begin.

    Chapter 3: Principle Three

The essence of the third principle is consent—the importance of making a choice to allow help to come to us in whatever form our Higher Power deems appropriate is stressed. Choice is an action in a healthy direction.

    Chapter 4: Principle Four

Whether it’s assessing what’s in a closet or taking an honest inventory of our health and fitness, knowing what we want to keep and what has or has not been working for us is at the heart of principle four.

    Chapter 5: Principle Five

We are only as sick as our secrets. Thus, there is extreme value for our health in speaking the truth. Being honest with our trusted support, our Higher Power, and ourselves is key to living in a state of wellness.

    Chapter 6: Principle Six

To this point there has been a great deal of work done on our part. Through the admissions and adjustments, we have made clear the way for God to help us with healing and lifelong health and fitness. Now it is all about remaining ready with an open and willing mind-set for the help.

    Chapter 7: Principle Seven

Ask from a pure and humble place, and you shall receive. Our intention for healing has to be sincere and authentic. The core of principle seven encompasses the acts of asking and praying with pure intent for health and wholeness.

    Chapter 8: Principle Eight

We’ve all heard references made to making amends. Making amends is a willingness to fix the damage done. Principle eight assists the reader in listing the harm done to themselves and others. Taking action should be done only with the support of your network.

    Chapter 9: Principle Nine

Take direct action only if it is safe and appropriate. Emphasis again is on getting guidance before action is taken.

    Chapter 10: Principle Ten

This is the maintenance of health and well-being. The more we practice the previous principles, the easier it is to keep healthy minds, bodies, and spirits.

    Chapter 11: Principle Eleven

The path to healing is wide open here. Meditation, yoga, prayer, chanting, working out, etc., are all ways we can stay consciously connected with God or our Higher Power. An understanding of this power within is personal and up to the individual to determine. No matter how it is defined, the key is to stay connected to it throughout our days.

    Chapter 12: Principle Twelve

In addition to improving communication, Wellativity is about sharing, giving back, and living by example. Bringing our health and fitness out into the world will serve others and ourselves and the universe as a whole. It is a spiritual principle that when you share—whether it’s a thought, a word, or an action—we cannot help but affect the entire energy field of the universe. Let it be for the positive.

Hay, Gerald Jampolsky, Justin Sterling, Eckhart Tolle, Neale Donald Walsch, Marianne Williamson, and Gary Zukav.

Enough cannot be said about how these wise individuals have served me directly and indirectly. Thank you for your compassionate support toward my own healing. Your inspiration and the lessons learned have given me a base to grow upon and evolve into one who now aids in healing those whom I have served and will serve.

For Laura D’ambrosio Hagerty I have the deepest gratitude. Her committed listening abilities and belief in Wellativity along with her photography, cover design, and initial editing have earned her not only a place in the credits of this book but a special place in my heart and soul.

To John Hess I give the highest of praise and acknowledgment. He validated that God was carrying me through this process not only mentally and emotionally but financially. John’s brother, Tom, and their mother, Dorothy, both my dear friends and clients, have also made the Hess family a cornerstone to what Wellativity has evolved into.

A very special thank-you to Joellyn Ausanka not only for her trust in me as her health professional for over sixteen years but also for her professional editing skills, which made the road to publication that much easier.

Thank you also to my twin sister, Caren, for her love, support, and unconditional belief in me. Through the years she has taught me to never give up on my dreams. To my stepbrother, Barron, for a lifetime of love, concern, and encouragement. To Julie Blake and her assistance in the conception of my ideas. To my clients: Richard M.; Randi W.; Gary R.; Elfi A. and her late husband, Ib A.; Cassandra T.; David H.; Sandra G.; and Babu K., each of whom contributed through their listening and feedback over thousands of hours.

To Ricardo R. at the Mews for his friendship and support for more than fifteen years.

Last but most definitely not least, to Bill W. and Dr. Bob for the countless lives they have saved through the creation of the original twelve-step program. I am confident when I say that without them in all probability I would not be here to develop Wellativity. From the most profound level of gratitude from me and the families you have helped to restore, thank you.

Conditioning our minds for a healthy and fit lifestyle should be the foundation for all wellness.

The quality of our health and wellbeing is relative to our ability to communicate.

Nowhere is it more valuable to have a firm grasp on being In-Powered than when dealing with that which is detrimental to our health.

    Introduction

I n recovery from any behavior or substance, it’s common knowledge that without your sobriety all will eventually be lost to the affliction, or as many say, given away. That being said, I cannot tell you how many times I have sat in a recovery meeting, thinking how beneficial it would be for my friends and me to have the essence of the twelve-step program translated into a twelve-step program for health and fitness. Its purpose would be to address the various crossover afflictions that plague us alongside our primary addiction and bring us to a healthier way of being overall. Wellativity and its twelve principles written into this book are the manifestation of all those years of thinking.

Since my early teenage years I have been immersed in spirituality, health, well-being, and the fitness industry. In the mid-’80s I entered my first twelve-step recovery program, and for more than thirty-five years to date I have been personally and professionally involved in all
