    Introduction

To this day, every man, woman and child struggles with the fact that at one point or another they have failed in some areas of their lives. Many have lived a life of depression, sadness and a loneliness that cannot be filled with anything in life. Many have come to the point of suicide, believing that it was all over for them, that there was nothing that they could do.

Facing storms and challenges in our present, yet still having to deal with the failures of our past, makes it very hard and maybe impossible to look forward to a bright and meaningful future. We all have failed, none more than others, we all have failed. In a world where failure is not tolerated, in a society in which there is no room or margin for error we find that lives are being destroyed, not because of our present but because of our past.

The past haunts many, binds them, and has no intention of ever letting go. It can drive a person into a state of complete bitterness and remorse, into a state of mind that does recognize love nor the value of the present. It torments in the present and destroys a life for the future. The past makes chains that are not easily broken, yokes that seem to have a grip on a person, and a present that is living but has no life.

I can never enjoy my present, nor enter in my future until I bury my past. People may live in their present but walk in their past. People walk as if they have no future, and that’s exactly what they have… . a great future, yet walk as if there is none because their lives are still bound to their past. Living with one’s past is a self inflicted wound that you do not have to keep on stabbing yourself. Many choose to live in their past, many do not want to let go, many even though that their past hurts them, refuse to let go and have grown subconsciously in love with their pain. Believing that they cannot let go, believing that they cannot live without, and believing that it is who they are now in their present.

People live in the pain and suffering of their past, because of ignorance or their choice. Now I know that it may seem hard to swallow but living with something is a matter of choice. Though I understand that living without Jesus makes escaping the past very hard to do and I also understand that without Jesus that past cannot be buried. It remains alive inside a person so that sooner or later it will come to flourish and that person will be affected and also the people around them will also be affected by that past.

To know that the past is still alive and well brings such a heavy burden into someone’s life that many times they carry that weight around them, smiling on the outside but are miserable on the inside. Too many times you see people good on the outside, yet not knowing that their inside is crippled by past failure, you see a person that you think or believe that they got it all together only to realize and find out that they are dying on the inside with no apparent hope in their horizon.

The fight is being fought in our minds, our hearts, spirits, soul and body. It affects every area of which we are, it affects the very fiber of our being, affecting us in our lives, marriages, jobs, friends, to go as far as affecting us financially. To live in a past that stinks and is heavy, a past that will lead you to death, a past that is not merciful, nor will it take the foot off the pedal, a past that is cruel and makes no apologies for sticking around. At the end of it all it will kill and has killed many.

I was looking out the window one morning and saw the garbage truck pull up to our office and take the garbage. I realized that he took the garbage from our building because we had put it out. We didn’t have to explain what was in the bags, didn’t have to explain why so much, didn’t have to explain anything… . we put it out and he took it. Now if we had not taken it out then our building would have stunk for days even if we cleaned, the smell would still be there. Now the consequence of leaving the garbage inside would have been huge. We would have maggots all over the place, flies flying all through the building, and running the risk of health concerns for the people inside, it would have been unsanitary to have all of that inside the building.

We would not have been able to function and operate because of all the garbage INSIDE when it should have been OUTSIDE. Yet we had to act, make a decision, in order to avoid the consequences of our lack of action and lack of making a firm decision. The garbage was not going to pick itself up and carry itself to the curb, it was not going to throw itself out, it was not going to let itself out, NO it was determined to live and abide for as long as possible, roducing filth, stench, disease, and a place unable to live or work in.

Yet our past is no different, it will stay in you till you decide to act and make your decision. The longer you let it stay, sooner or later it will start to release its fruits and start giving evidence that it is present. The bible says and you shall know them by their fruits Matthew 7:16. Your past will give fruit, and if you are still living in the failures of yesterday then you will have an aroma around that will not be pleasant, you may think it’s normal but others will begin to move away because they smell something that is not right.

It cannot be stopped, it will give forth fruit. Now keep this in mind, a farmer when he sows seed into the ground he does not receive harvest right away he must work the land and be patient. Yet when the harvest comes it all goes to waste if the farmer decides not to harvest because he doesn’t like the shade of yellow, then that farmer has wasted all of his time and patience in waiting for the harvest. How many people are living in such state, refusing to take out the garbage and waiting for a different harvest? That is not even possible! Remember that what we are not willing to let go, we must then be willing to accept it. Refusing to take out the garbage will produce and always produce frustrations; anger, resentments, disappointments, bitterness, and eventually it can and will kill our life.

Yet the question still stands untill today and that is how can one be free? The answer is so simple, His name is Jesus Christ! I do not want to give you a quick fix solution or answer, but I have realized that Jesus is the only way.

I must ask the question… . is it possible to know God but not know him at all? The answer to that question is yes! Having knowledge of God doesn’t mean that you know God. Many people have knowledge of who God has been to them in their past or present, many know him based on a description in a book, many have their own description of who God is. To know the God of the bible is one thing but to know the God that came to save you and me is another. God (Jesus) doesn’t want you to know him as a character of a book or a description by someone else. He (Jesus) desires a relationship with you and for me.

You know the bible says in John 3:17 For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but to save the world through him. So through this I realize that the God who came to give his life to save you and I loves us so much that His loves goes beyond comprehension, beyond explanation, and all he really wants is for us to have a relationship with him.

Many live with the failures of yesterday, or even today, and fear and worry about the failures that they will have tomorrow. One of the greatest tragedies that could ever happen to someone is to live a life full of fear. Many even die with the notion that their failure was so great that they never forgave themselves and die in bitter depression and resentment and often not at anyone else but at their own failure. You see my dear friend Jesus said "I am the way, and the truth, and the life; no one comes to the Father but through Me . . . John 14:6

Mount Everest, the highest mountain in the world sitting at 8,848 meters or 29035 feet high above sea level! In the distance it sits as a majestic mountain and creates a sense of pride for the people of Nepal. By 2010 over 3000 people have climbed the mountain, thousands more have tried and failed. It is said that at 26000 feet you have reached the dead zone the area known to the guides as the place where most people have died because of the conditions and the unpredictability of the mountain. An area in which those that climb it dread it, fear it and many before reaching that place have decided to turn back and not go any further.

At 26000 feet the air is so fine, so cold that your average winter coat in Canada is not adequate for such temperatures and conditions. Though Mount Everest with all its beauty and elegance is one of the most deadliest of all mountains in the world, taking those that desire to climb and conquer it, taking the lives of those inspired by its greatness and those daring enough to engage in the climb.

In our lives we face those dead zones on a daily basis. Allow me to explain… . certain things in our lives look beautiful from a far and we say I can do that or that looks easy only to realize that it is the contrary. And we grab hold of the word of God and we declare Phil 4:16 I can do all things through Christ that strengthens me and yes that is a powerful verse in the bible, yet let me summarize in my own words what Paul said… just because I can do all things doesn’t mean I should do all things! (1st Corinthians 10:23)

I am in no way saying that you should run away, but 2nd Timothy 1:7 God has not given us the spirit of fear! To climb Mount Everest you have to be trained, well prepared physically, emotionally, mentally. You must be able to control your worries, and be ready to use all the skills that you have learned. Trusting in your guide is just as equally important, for if you do not trust the one that is leading you then chances are that you will fail.

Understanding that life is full of ordeals and trials, tribulations, and obstacles, knowing full well that even Jesus said it wasn’t going to be easy, but He gave us a guarantee and that was that he was going to be with us all the days of our life.

We must be bold, we must have courage, we must march forward… . but I have to ask… . how is your training? How is your equipment? Who is your guide? Many have failed at climbing Mount Everest because of the lack of such basic elements.

When we lack such things we cause more damage to ourselves and we take many steps backwards instead of going forward. We think it is too much preparation, too much of this and too much of that, but the reality is that life throws at us so many things that can be unpredictable. Often students will think and even say why am I learning this? or why is this important? It is true at that precise moment we may not believe that it is important, but in life everything that we can learn and know about is important.

The Lord said to Joshua "No one will be able to stand against you all the days of your life. As I was with Moses, so I will be with you; I will never leave you nor forsake you—Joshua 1:5. He said "I will be with you!" that means just that. Yet more importantly it means that HE wants to be your daily teacher, teaching you every single day the new things that you may need. Sometimes we ask and wonder Lord, is this really necessary? . . . remember that God never says or does anything simply to entertain or kill time, everything HE does or says, HE does and says with purpose.

For He knew our past, knows our present and has already been in our future. Jeremiah 29:11 says For I know the thoughts that I think toward you says the Lord, they are thoughts of peace and not of evil to bring you an expected end! Just learn everything… absorb everything… . Jesus does everything with purpose!

    Chapter 1

    The Journey Begins

Faith… . such a difficult thing to understand and live by. Yet it is the language of heaven, the language of angels in order to walk successfully in this Christian walk we must walk through faith. Walking on this road requires faith. Hebrews 11:1-3 in the One New Man Bible translates: And trust is being confident of things being hoped for, proof of things not seen. Indeed the elders were approved by this. By trusting we understand that the worlds were created by a spoken Word of God, so that what is seen has not come out of things
