    Introduction

Many a times we hear the word dream in so many contexts in this generation. People from all walks of lives have discussed and explained dreams in several ways. Some of these people speak from a religious background and others from the psychological point of view. The scholars have failed to explain the subject of dream to the world. I believe the answer is in the hands of Christians because dreams are more spiritual than physical.

The dictionary defines dream as a series of pictures or events in the mind of a sleeping person. The emphasis is on a sleeping person and not a person who is awake. When talking about true dreams, it is not our aspirations and projections we have for the future as this generation has taken it to be. Since 1900, after Sigmund Freud’s publications on dreams, many people in the twenty-first century refer to his theories anytime a dream is mentioned as if without Freud’s work on dreams based on psychology, dreams would not be important and understood.

Tracing the history of dreams in the Bible, the word dream has been mentioned over sixty times in the Old Testament. According to the scriptures, God spoke to some of his prophets and men who pleased him in dreams. We can talk of the dream of Solomon at Gibeon in 1 Kings 3:5: In Gibeon the Lord appeared to Solomon in a dream by night: and God said, ask what I shall give thee. This reveals to us that Solomon of all people—full of wisdom, knowledge, and understanding—also depended on his dream where he had assurance from God. When God spoke to Aaron and Miriam concerning Moses after the two had criticized Moses for marrying an Ethiopian woman And he said, Hear now my words: if there be a prophet among you, I the Lord will make myself known unto him in a vision, and will speak unto him in a dream (Numbers 12:6).

God always needs to speak to his children. In the times of the Old Testament, he did that mostly through prophets. But in our days, he speaks to us individually as his children by the new covenant, which was sealed by the blood of Jesus. It is important, therefore, to understand what dreams mean and how they occur so that we can make good use of our dreams.

    Chapter 1

The Promise of God (Prophecies, Visions,

    And Dreams)

Dreams form part of the entire human life regardless of whether the person is religious or not. The unfortunate thing is that people misunderstand the whole concept of dreams due to religious and cultural differences and differences in opinions. It is an undeniable fact that all dreams do
