    INTRODUCTION

The butterfly begins as an ugly, wormlike larva that is surrounded by threads woven into a cocoon. As the butterfly grows it has to free itself from the cocoon. This entails struggle. Should someone cut the cocoon to lessen the butterfly’s labors, the butterfly emerges and dies. Its’ wings are not strong enough to survive. It is in the struggle that the butterfly gains strength. When the struggle is cut short, so is the life expectancy of the butterfly.

It is my hope that as you read this book you will not see the struggles and triumphs in my life, but the unseen presence that was constantly there to guide and strengthen. Each of us is a composition of the circumstances life deals us, the actions of others, our responses, and God’s Hand upon our life. God in His wisdom allows the struggle. Without this struggle we could not become the beautiful butterfly. Without the power of the Holy Spirit we could not overcome these struggles. It is God’s power that gets us through.

Although they tried their best, they were too wrapped up in each other to see the hurting child that was before them.

Childhood should not only be a time of growth and maturity, but also
