About this ebook

The body of a man is discovered in the River Tet, tied at the end of a line, the fishing line around the neck. Faced with this conundrum, captain Frank Meyer and his team of the Judicial Police of Perpignan are pressed with this very delicate affair. The victim has no identification on them, and the only witness is the passer-by who fished the body thinking he had a large fish at the end of an abandoned fishing line.

Alain Ruiz holds a PhD in Religious Studies from the University of Montreal and is the author of several novels and practical guides that have sold over 130000 copies, including the highly successful Ian Flibus series (Ian Flix) in Quebec and the Chronicles of Braven Oc which was also adapted into a comic book. Alain Ruiz is married and has 3 children.

Walking along the river Têt, in Perpignan, Gilles Blainville glanced at his watch, 7:42 am. He was about to return home when, below the pathway, he noticed a fishing rod planted along the shore of the river. He glanced around but saw no one. Feeling intrigued, he descended carefully to get closer. He fished occasionally himself. The forty-nine-year-old man grabbed the deserted rod whose line was stretching out toward the water. Convinced of the presence of a fish at the end, he began by shoeing. Feeling resistance, he pulled the spool from the reel and quickly brought the line back.

Jeepers! This is a big one!

Gilles Blainville feared that the line would eventually break. He adjusted the spool and gradually loosened it as the catch got closer. He soon noticed movement on the surface and finally saw the fish stir. He was surprised, however, by discovering a carp nearly fifty centimetres in length.

Do not tell me it's you who give me so much trouble!

The man continued to reel, still feeling a strong resistance. The only explanation that seemed plausible to him was the presence of a secondary thread on the same line. Gilles Blainville soon had confirmation and realized that he was not finished yet. He felt a strong excitement that he had not felt since the time he had caught a pike that was seventy-two centimetres in length. As a result, he regretted not having found the time to come fishing in the recent months.

The thread snapped abruptly, which immediately bought him out of his thoughts.

No, not this! Do not let go now, so close to the catch!

    Gilles Blainville drew hard
