About this ebook
Stephen A. Arner
Steve Arner was born in Aurora, Colorado, the youngest of two children. Since his father was a career Army soldier, Steve traveled extensively and lived in a variety of locations, including two three-year tours in Germany, while growing up. This diverse and experience-rich environment laid the foundation for, as well as shaped much of what Steve is today. Steve’s father retired from the Army in the spring of 1966. Not quite two years later, Steve answered his nation’s call to serve by enlisting in the Navy. Through a series of 10-seconds or less career decision events, Steve found himself serving in the Navy’s nuclear power program aboard submarines, earning his coveted Silver Dolphins in 1972. The rigors of life as a “nuke” and life aboard submarines in general finished the foundation upon which Steve would build a career. Opting out of active duty Naval service in the summer of 1976 to spend more time with his family, Steve enlisted in the Navyl Reserves, where he spent an additional 20 years, finally retiring in the summer of 1996 as a Senior Chief Petty Officer. In his civilian career, Steve has worked exclusively in the nuclear industry. Beginning as an Equipment Operator, progressing through service as a journey-level millwright, into maintenance supervision and management, and on into consulting service, Steve has kept himself close to his roots and the work he enjoys. Along the way, together with his wife and best friend Colleen, Steve raised three sons and a daughter. Family togetherness has long held a pivotal role in his family’s life, and reunions and visits with grandparents, aunts, uncles, and cousins were favorite activities. Having recently celebrated their 38th wedding anniversary, Steve and Colleen now call Las Vegas, Nevada, home and enjoy spending time with their family.
