About this ebook
Nine-year-old Neil never expects to have an adventure. He likes studying science from a safe distance – by himself, on his computer, in his room. Suddenly, he's not alone. Two tiny wizards, Hye and Jynx, pop out of his rubber plant and need his help. They don't have enough magic to get home and must travel to the natural wonders of the world to find more enchantment. They need Neil as an anchor when they travel in Magic-Time because his room is the only way back to their world. He reluctantly agrees to go with them.
Their first quest is traveling to the Grand Canyon. Interrupted mid-spell by Neil's younger sister, all four arrive in the Grand Caymen Islands instead of the Grand Canyon, thousands of miles from their destination. He wonders if he and his sister are going to get back home.

Hye-Jynx:Quest One - Denice Hughes Lewis
One: Natura
Two twelve-inch wizards zipped through Natura, a land of magic and bright colors. Plants and flowers grew ten feet tall. Foot-long insects buzzed through the air. Strange creatures swam in the depths of the pools.
They swung through the leafy, vine-covered trees, beards gray against the bright green.
Hyeram Zanderfield was fast and slender. He led the way. The sun flickered on his golden cap and golden wand.
Hye, let me use my wand,
said Jynxoflax Musupsom. He was plump and couldn’t run as fast. His cap and wand sparkled emerald. Suspenders held up his baggy pants.
We cannot use magic, Jynx,
Hye said. Sorceressa will feel it and find us. We need to get the Silver Seed to safety.
There was a loud squeal in the distance.
Jynx gasped. She is coming.
He slipped on a wet leaf and tumbled head-over-heels through the trees.
Hye rushed after him.
Jynx’s suspenders caught on a small limb. He dangled above a pool of purple water.
A crocofish leaped out of the pool. Its crocodile head snapped at Jynx and missed. Its tail
slapped the water as it dove back into the pool.
Jynx tried to unhook himself from the limb by bouncing up and down. The limb broke. He plunged straight for the water.
The crocofish jumped again. Jynx fell onto its nose. The crocofish shook his head and tried to eat Jynx.
Jynx slipped and rolled to its back. He barely caught one fin before the crocofish dove again.
Hye jumped to the bank of the pool. He raised his golden wand.
Terrified of the dark shapes moving underwater, Jynx held onto the crocofish.
A sponge-like octobarb with sharp points and eight tentacles, rose from the bottom of the
pool. One red tentacle reached for Jynx. It snatched his green cap and sank.
Horrified, Jynx slid halfway into the crocofish’s gill to hide.
The crocofish choked and tried to shake Jynx out of his gill. It leaped out of the water.
Help,
yelled Jynx when he saw Hye.
Even though Sorceressa would find them faster, Hye had his wand ready to save Jynx. He
pointed it at Jynx and said, Emoc ereh.
Jynx flew off the crocofish and sailed through the air. He landed in an empty wasp’s nest and howled. He waddled out of the nest with a stinger in his bottom.
Use your wand,
Jynx screeched.
Hye shook his head. He grabbed the six-inch stinger and yanked it out.
Aahhh,
said Jynx with relief.
Thundering hooves smashed in the undergrowth far behind the wizards.
Run!
yelled Hye.
I lost my magic cap,
moaned Jynx.
Hye grabbed Jynx. There is no time to get it. We must reach the fairy circle. Come on.
A rasping screech filled the woods. I feel magic, Boarus. Find them!
The wizards dared not use their wands again. They ran around rocks and under huge leaves.
Sorceressa rode through the forest standing on top of a thousand-pound rhinosopig. Her reins hooked to the huge horn that stuck out from the middle of its head. Six-feet tall, her red frizzy hair swirled around her blazing yellow eyes. Fangs hung from her mouth. She snapped her whip. Faster, Boarus.
Boarus snorted. Saliva dripped from his snout. His beady eyes looked everywhere. He caught the scent of the wizards and charged
