Before

Two twelve-inch wizards , Hye and Jynx, live in another dimension called Natura. It is a land of giant trees and strange animals. They need to plant a Silver Seed to save their world from the evil witch, Sorceressa.

Sorceressa chases them, trying to steal their magic.

Unable to plant the seed in time, Hye and Jynx hide it with a spell. They escape to Earth, but lose half of their magic. The two wizards land inside a rubber plant in Neil’s bedroom.

Neil, nine, is shocked to see two tiny wizards squish out of his plant. He’s a science geek who loves working on his computer, safe in his room.

His younger sister, Sandi, is always ready for adventure.

Hye and Jynx can’t return to Natura until they travel to ten famous natural wonders of the world and find items with natural magic.

In Hye-Jynx: Quest One, Neil reluctantly traveled with his sister and the wizards in Magic-Time and barely made it home.

One: Problem

Neil yawned and collapsed on his bed, tired out. He didn’t think he could move again. He wished the wizards and Sandi would leave him alone so he could sleep.

The next quest must start immediately, Hye said. Sorceressa cannot use my wand again. I have to get back to Natura.

Neil couldn’t ignore the eleven-inch wizard. He stared at Hye’s pale face and wondered if it hurt to shrink an inch. I’m not going on another quest. It’s too dangerous.

We have to help, his sister said.

Hye’s cousin, Jynx, flew around the room, trying out his newly repaired wand. He crashed into a wall and bounced backward onto the bed. Yow!

I see you are back to normal, said Hye.

Jynx grinned. Right, Shorty.

Hye’s face turned red. I’m only one inch shorter than you are now. If you shrank an inch, you would not fit in your pants.

Jynx stuck out his chin. I like being plump.

Hye frowned. What if Sorceressa gets my wand to work again and I shrink to nothing?

Jynx hung his head. I am sorry.

We have to hope Sorceressa cannot reach this world, Hye said.

Neil dragged himself off his bed and winced. His knees shook and he sat down. His muscles ached from climbing the walls of the Grand Canyon. Are we in danger from Sorceressa?

I do not know, Hye said. We must hurry.

Neil’s heart sank. What natural wonder do you need now?

Hye closed his eyes. His golden cap glowed. A seedpod from a kapok tree.

Neil loved science and it was getting harder and harder not to get excited. I’ve always wanted to see a ceiba pentandra.

Sandi rolled her eyes. Do you know the scientific names of everything?

Only what interests me. Remember when Mom stuffed my sleeping bag with kapok?

Sandi squinted her eyes, thinking hard. She smiled. We can buy some in a store.

Jynx shook his head. We need the seedpod from its natural source.

Sandi rubbed her cheek against the soft white fur of her stuffed cat, Whiskers. What if you don’t make it back? You could get lost.
