    Prelude

In The Shelter of Each Other, Mary Pipher gives advice on rebuilding troubled families. She explores how today’s children sometimes overuse TV and video games to the exclusion of information received from extended family.

She gives an example of a family reunion where the youngsters are given a video to watch in the back room so that the adults can talk undisturbed. Dr. Pipher believes that this diversion actually deprives children. Children need to mix with the older generations so that they can hear the stories of aunts, uncles, grandparents, and parents. This helps them learn from those who have gone before them.

The Old Testament places a high value on children being taught their spiritual heritage. After God parted the waters of the Jordan River, Joshua was instructed to take twelve stones from the river to create a memorial for future generations.

When your children ask, ‘What do these stones mean to you?’ Then you shall answer them that the waters of the Jordan were cut off … And these stones shall be a memorial to the children of Israel forever" (Josh. 4:6–7). We need spiritual interaction between generations. Remember that Bible stories are often family stories. And our children need them and us.

    —Dennis Fisher

Oh, may all who come behind us find faith; May the fire of our devotion light their way; May the footprints that we leave lead them to believe, and the lives we live inspire them to obey.

    —Mohr

"We will not hide them from their children, telling to the generation to come the praises of the Lord, and His Strength and His wonderful works that He has done."

    —Psalms 78:4

The stories and testimonies in this book are not necessarily in chronological order. This book was originally written for my children and grandchildren. May this book be a blessing to others as well.

    Introduction

This book is about the miracle working power of God that has been manifested in our family. May my children and grandchildren—and the generations to come—refer to this book as a reminder of the genuine power and faithfulness of God. He is no respecter of persons—He is a respecter of faith. God instructed me through a dream by showing me Psalms 78 in November 2007. Once I read it, I understood the instructions.

This book may sound personal, but that is because it was first addressed to them. God spoke to my heart to share our testimonies of miracles with the world.

A miracle is defined as a supernatural occurrence that cannot be defined through human experience. It is God putting His super (beyond natural ability) onto our natural situations and/or circumstances. Become a believer that miracles really do happen—and they still happen today. There are no miracle workers—only a God of miracle-working power!

One of my grandchildren’s paternal grandfathers said to me, You know I want my grandchildren to be with me and not with you in another state. He went on to say, You know how you suffered? I do not want my grandchildren to have to experience that type of lifestyle. At the time, I was hoping that my daughter and her children would move closer to me.

He took for granted that the God that I served could not change situations and circumstances. It was interesting to me because he is a minister of the Gospel. People say that they have faith, yet when their faith is tested or when they feel as if they have it all together in the natural, they start thinking naturally instead of supernaturally. Even if he was alluding to generational curses, the God that I serve is greater than anything that comes against us in life. I say, "God’s DNA is greater than our DNA. Generational curses can be broken. The yoke is destroyed because of the anointing. Anointing – defined means - the burden, removing, yoke-destroying power of God in our lives.

Little did this man know that my life had changed for the better and our family was prospering. I recently rehashed that statement in my mind and, like David, I can only say, "It was good for me that I was afflicted that I might know thy statues.1 What a blessing to be chosen to suffer for the cause of Christ. Tribulation works patience, patience works experience, and experience hope and hope won’t make you ashamed.2 Hope is birthed out of the experience of what God has done in the past. He has the ability to do again and again and again what He has done before—if we believe and act on what we believe! Our family has been chosen to display and speak about the miraculous—and so has your family. As a family, we have gone through various trials and tribulations and have come out victorious—time and time again. As long as we
