    Dedication

This book is dedicated to many of those who are so dear to my heart. First, to my loving husband, Bob, who has always believed in me. To Christopher and Benjamin, my precious sons, and to Lauren, my daughter-in-law; may you come to know God as your true Lord and allow His love to carry you through life. To Cameron, my grandson, whose sweet nature delights and brings me nearest to heaven on earth. To my mother, who always made me believe I could do anything and do it well. To my father, who always made me feel I had something special to give. Also, to other family members and friends who have encouraged me, each in their own endearing ways. I thank you all from the bottom of my heart. A special thanks to Sharon Steele, Sandy Strong, Patti Gillette and Amy Kern-Smith for your willingness to listen, share and lend not only your hands, but also your hearts.

    Introduction

    Dear Children,

You are all so very precious to me and I pray for you all each day. My greatest desire for you is to have a happy, healthy life and to know how precious your existence can be when you understand what this life is truly about.

I write this letter to you with the hope of explaining what I have learned my life’s purpose to be, and with the hope that you will realize what your reason for being is. I believe that everything happens for a reason and nothing is coincidental in our lives. I understand your hesitancy about believing in my God just because I have a deep belief in Him and His unconditional love for all.

Growing up, I believed in God but never understood what a close relationship with Him really meant. I knew of a God who loved me but was judgmental and distant. I read my Bible, mostly because I felt it was the right thing to do and prayed for much the same reason. I always believed He loved me and knew He could answer prayer but didn’t understand how much He wanted a friendship with me.

As a young child, I asked God to come into my life to save me from an eternity in hell. Uncle Dean and I were staying with Grandma and Grandpa on spring vacation. Grandma was reading about Daniel and the lion’s den and how God protected him. I, too, wanted God’s protection from harm and wanted the assurance that I would go to heaven when I die. I prayed and asked Jesus to come into my heart. From that point on, I had a relationship with Him but failed to see how full my life could be if I made Him the focus and my reason for living.

As a teenager I attended church faithfully, occasionally read my Bible, and always prayed before drifting off to sleep. Again, my relationship seemed secure but I struggled with the hypocrisy I saw within the church. When I was old enough to decide for myself, I began attending a church that taught of God’s goodness and love. There was no mention of being deeply committed to God, or the reality of heaven or hell.

When you were young, you were raised in a similar church setting. Our family attended church regularly, went to Sunday school, vacation Bible school, read Bible stories and said bedtime prayers. To the best of my knowledge, I was teaching you all I knew.

I truly thought I was teaching you about God’s love.

Now I know there is so much more to being in a committed relationship with God! My grandparents both had a close friendship with God and knew He held the answers to both the good and bad times in life. Grandpa wrote a note in the front of the family Bible, that he proudly gave your dad and me on our wedding day. It reads:

    Dear Grandchildren,

In this book you can find the answer to all of life’s problems. The happiness and joys of family and the sorrows of sickness and disappointments of life. God gives the answers.

    Love,

    Grandpa Finkbiner

    Ephesians 5:22-33

WIVES, SUBMIT TO YOUR OWN HUSBANDS, AS TO THE LORD. FOR THE HUSBAND IS HEAD OF THE WIFE, AS ALSO CHRIST IS HEAD OF THE CHURCH; AND HE IS THE SAVIOR OF THE BODY. THEREFORE, JUST AS THE CHURCH IS SUBJECT TO CHRIST, SO LET THE WIVES BE
