About this ebook

...why, why God, why? presents a series of true and
powerful stories about life. Some are conversations with God, and
others are conversations author Robert Lee Harris had with other
people.

All the stories drive home some simple truths about life and its challenges
tales in which God has shown up and provided much-needed
direction. They will encourage you to reach up and grab hold of hope
with both hands, inspire you to rise up in faith, and overcome the
obstacles that are holding you back, then begs you to unlock and open
the door of belief, while stepping into a reality full of your dreams and
aspirations. Our journeys through life may follow many pathssome
leading us in destructive ways that bring great pain which causes our
hearts to be hardened, and others bringing us great joy. The best path,
however, whether it contains pain or joyis the one that leads us to
our Creator. Its in Him that we find our true calling and the purpose
for which we were created, and it is this path that continues to
become brighter and brighter until the perfect day arrives.

Robert Lee Harris has an important
story to tell. From homelessness
during his teenage years to prosperity
and the good life as an adult, Harris
has found the truth in his life through
God. Living life at any level has troubles,
with consequences that could lead to a
destructive life, if not handled correctly.
No one can or will help us the way that
the Creator can help us.

He is the way, the truth, and the life.

    PREFACE & ACKNOWLEDGMENTS

There was a man walking with a stick in his hand, and everywhere he went he had the stick. He was called the man with the stick.

This was my first poem, written as a joke after reading some poetry in a book my dad had shown to me. I thought these poems were so simple that anyone could write one. So, wanting to show off to my dad, a poet and author himself, I jotted down those few words when I was only 12 years old.

He encouraged me to write by having a lady who worked in the poetry industry come over. She read my poem, and bought it for a dollar. Then, she framed it, and gave it back to me. Thanks, Dad, for the encouragement to write. Thanks, also, to the lady—whoever she was and to all the encouragers of the world.

A word can destroy a dream, or a word of encouragement can build a dream in the lives of the young and old. My hope is this: that the stories and directives within the pages of this book will destroy some strong holds that are holding you back, and at the same time, build you up in the way you should go.

I wrote this book to answer the deep calling from within me that God, Himself, put in my heart. It’s natural for me to do so and difficult for me to ignore. This body of work needs to be told. It’s like when there’s a good sale at the store or a product that really works—you just have to tell others.

My prayer since the age of 5 has been this: Lord, allow me to help the masses of the people. This book is an answer to that calling.

So, here’s the gospel, or good news, according to Robert Lee Harris, born in the year of our Lord 1961, on this tiny little planet called Earth. Please don’t misunderstand me. God’s Word is the beginning and the end. These are just my experiences, and how I dealt with them as I heard from the Lord and attempted to follow Him.

To all those people over the years who told me I should write a book; well, here it is. I finally wrote it. Thanks be to my God who spoke to me through you. I’ve finally answered Him.

This book is the will of God in my life for the benefit of all who can hear Him: the sinner and the saved; the lost and the righteous that remain in the pursuit of Him; the blind and those who see Him; and those who are following Him through this evil and wicked world; and, for all who’ve ever asked the question, …why, why God, why?

    CHAPTER 1

    …why, why God, why?

I was having a stressful day at work, and decided to retreat to the house for some quiet time. After arriving home and changing clothes, I went for a walk on the trails in my back yard and adjoining woods. The yard was like a nature park, with many trees and all the wild animals you’d expect to find in a wetland area. I walked down the path, through the arbor, and over a small bridge that crossed a running brook. I then went upstream past the striped bass, rabbits, raccoons, and woodpeckers, until
