About this ebook

When I started writing this book I had a broken heart. I was in pain; I was suffering. I had been disappointed before, but I had never had my heart broken. It was a crushing and painful experience. As this book goes to print, I am no longer broken in spirit or heart. One man broke my heart; another whom I was calling on and believing in all along gave me hope and a renewed spirit. I now understand what is meant by the phrase hurting people hurt other people. Even more so, I understand and believe in His ability to bring an end to an issue where we see no end in sight. I can truly say I am better and not bitter over the whole experience. I can say that I am able to love freely again. These short stories are both my joy for my husband and my pain from his actions as well as my calls on a higher power to help me through.

    Foreword

Love Ordinary is the journal of marriage that many women keep unwritten. Sharon W. Perkins has verbalized the feelings that so many of us possess, but so rarely put to paper. There is therapy in releasing your feelings through words, and lucky for us who have not documented them, Sharon has eloquently given us our dose of rehabilitation. Her journal from finding new love and trusting in God to being betrayed, feeling unwanted and ultimately forgiving her betrayer is commanding. It will awaken so many emotions. The times you suspected something was wrong, this book will challenge you to confront those fears, knowing that God is in your corner. Those times you may have wanted to confront a betrayer but couldn’t put to words how you truly felt, this book will help you to articulate them. Those times you just need to get in a quiet corner and speak to God, this book will offer you amazing prayers to profess.

At times it is not an easy read, especially if your experiences are similar, but there is comfort in knowing that someone can empathize with you and can relate to your heartbreak, when your friends and family cannot. And there is also joy in the revelation of overcoming that heartbreak. Sharon did it and so can we. As she states in Now that I Know You:

No matter how long the battle, I know in the end I will be the winner. Now, with this knowledge something else became true; to prove I am victorious I must enter into some battles. I must face a fight, but in doing so I know that before we start, no matter what it looks like, no matter how I feel, when it is all over and done with I am the victor.

For those of us who may not be going through heartbreak—and I pray that you never know it—this is not just a book about heartache. Entries like, Jesus, you the best thing that ever happen to me remind us in whom to place our trust, and entries like Know Your Worth tell young ladies and women alike to stop assigning such a small dollar amount to your goodie jar; take your place and get in position to save yourself for your intended purpose. Boys and Girls questions where we—as a society—went wrong in drastically changing the family structure.

Each page will grab you, each entry unique. Some will make you laugh out loud! Holistically, you will enjoy reading, Love Ordinary over and over.

To all the ladies in my life I thank you also for your insights, directions and advice concerning the condition and mind set of men.

    Introduction

I am a mother, grandmother, wife, daughter, sister, aunt and great aunt. I have a strong sense of family and not just husband and wife or mother and father family. I understand that community starts with the first three generations of any family. I graduated from Purdue University with a Bachelors of Arts in Communication and from Indiana University with a Master of Science in Public Management.

At the tender age of 14, I met my husband. Within three months he wrote a manifesto, which detailed our future together. He planned to make me his wife and claimed three children: two boys and a girl. He included the all-American dream of a house and picket fence. Seven to ten months later he informed me that he had a child on the way by another woman and that he had to do the right thing by his child.
