    I Think

I think the person who impresses me most

    Is Otto Frank

    He saw the storm troopers

    He saw the tank

    He moved his family

    To higher ground

    To Amsterdam

    With its peaceful sound

But soon the Nazis caught up

    But he planned ahead

He laid in provisions in the secret annex

    Everyone had a bed

    They took on boarders

    And lived for two years

    Nazis came in the morning

    And brought his worst fears

    He alone survived

    To live to old age

    It must have been difficult

    Turning the page.

    She’s Off In the Clouds

    She’s off in the clouds

That’s a good place to be

    At least it is

    For me

    It gives me time

    To do what I do

    To do what I do

    Until I’m through

    She’s also practical

    Which is what I need

    She picks the right vegetables

    She picks the right seed

    She gets me to work

    My nine to five

    If I’m going to write

    I’ve got to survive.

    In a Couple

    In a couple of months

    I’ll be on vacation

    I don’t have kids

    So I don’t need a PlayStation

    We’ll go back down

    To our usual spot

    An efficiency in Marathon

    I’m hot to trot

    She is too

    It’s been a long year

    She has a new manager

Who does not know how to endear.

    I Tell You

    I tell you

    I call it bliss

It’s a little bit of that

It’s a little bit of this

    It’s a tofu dog

    On a toasted millet bun

    I know it’s true

    Surely as I’m a son

    With chopped onions

    And sauerkraut

    It’s the best thing

    Here and about

    Coney Island

    This one’s for you

    The tradition’s old

    The ingredients new.

    I Think Of the Youth

    I think of the youth

    Who defied Hitler’s goons

    And dressed American

    And danced to American tunes

    They too paid dearly

    For what they loved

    But by then the envelope

    Had already been shoved

    The Big Band Era

    Was in full swing

    Hitler thought

    He was the only king.

    He Told Me

    He told me

    Sometimes while watching TV

Out the window to his left

    He can see

    A North Vietnamese regular

    Passing by

    With his pack and gun

    I had to sigh

    We were out

    In the parking lot

He was there to pick up his wife

    Believe it or not

    I was outside

    To close up some doors

    Of the chemical shed

    One of my chores

    He told me

    Some amazing stuff

    About his tour in Vietnam

    I know it was rough

    It was matter-of-fact

    From what I could hear

    He’d had

    At least one beer

Their dog was in the backseat

    Of the Mustang

    What he told me

    I had to say dang

    He told me some stuff

    That went on in Vietnam

    I wasn’t surprised

    I’ll raise my Dom

    Perignon that is

    To the
