About this ebook

Before I knew it, Jason hollered in the
cafeteria, Yo it’s ya girl! Leaving as quickly
as he said it. I was on my feet, and out
the door, TR wasn’t too far behind me. I
couldn’t believe it was her and Tink. Tone
was standing nearby and yeah that idiot
was smiling. Girls can be so stupid. I tried
my best to break it up, but after I got hit
in the eye, I said the hell with it. Where
are the damn teachers? Oh, never mind
Melissa was giving it to her and giving it
to her good? Well, that’s my friend! So
rich girls can’t fight? This chick got so
much mouth, though. After about fifteen
minutes, two teachers and the Principal
came to stop the fight. Weave was all over
the place, and Tink’s boobs were popping
out.
“And if any of ya friends want some
they can get some too; fucking bitch tell
Mommy to get you some boxing lessons.”
Ms. Jefferson that will be quite enough,”
Dr. Glass said furious as hell. She was
trying to pull Mel one way, and the
teachers were pulling Tink the other way.
Tink lip was bleeding; she looked drunk.
People weren’t laughing; they were shocked
by Mel, who knew? I damn sure did! You
know it was really a good fight. Go, Mel,
I thought to myself. I walked behind her
and Dr. Glass to the office. Well needless to
say; what I didn’t mention. Tone stepped
off when he realized Tink was losing badly
of course and he was on to the next just
like that and who did he leave with his
arm around, her friend Jenny, yeah rich,
but definitely on the block.

Salihah has always had dreams of becoming a famous author. She has always been able to tell stories. She has always had a very imaginative spirit. Well she is now a third time author. One thing I can say she accomplishes everything she sets out to do so I wouldn’t be surprised if we were going to the theater to see one of her plays.

O ddly enough, I forgave my husband for everything he did to me even though my best friend always told me I should leave him. But you know what they say Karma is a bitch, and then you die….

The year of 2009, I remember like it was yesterday. The bell rang, and my friends and I were leaving the building very excited about a party that was happening that evening. I was a freshman at FitzSimons High School, and a mutual friend was having a house party to celebrate her birthday. We were all laughing, plotting, and talking about what we were going to wear and from the corner of my eye, I noticed him. I didn’t know his name, but he was new, and no one seemed to know the deal about him. He was walking towards us, heading into the building. Our eyes met briefly so; I smiled; he looked away no expression at all. Maybe he didn’t see me! I looked back to see if he looked back and Melissa nudged me and said.

    So, well?

So, well, what? I said, wondering if he didn’t notice me, damn.

Duh… what are you going to wear? She said, looking back to see what I was looking at. So, I asked her has anyone said anything about the new guy and if she even knew his name?" She had no idea; I was shocked. Melissa knew all the dirt and gossip at Fitz. Every day after school, we went over to the Poppy Store. It was across the street from the school. A lot of kids would hang there because of the mini arcade, and you could get pizza by the slice. My all-time favorite was the cherry fountain sodas; nobody has them anymore. Melissa was seeing someone new T, Tone or something; well, I didn’t like him at all. He tried to screw every chick he met. He was nice looking, but a dog. I guess it was something about him because girls were practically drooling over him. Maybe it was because he is captain of the basketball team or maybe because scouts were looking at him. I don’t know, but as soon as he came in all conversation with her stopped. Melissa was sucked in just like everyone else. I left her tripping over her words. She’s crazy! As I was leaving, she waved and hollered see ya ass tonight. I looked back to say something, but she was sucking his tonsils out. She got issues and between her annoying gum popping and now this nut; I can’t.

Well, the rest of the day went fine. I finished my homework did my chores and straightened up before Moms came home. All though it was Friday I figured do it now so that I could have Saturday to myself. By the time I finished vacuuming the floor, my Mom had come home, surprisingly enough she was in a good mood; it must be payday.

Hey, honey, how was your day? ‘kicking off her heels and throwing her bag down on the couch, damn, it smells good in here," moving quickly to the restroom. She must have had to go bad; she never uses the one downstairs. I followed her. I stood in the doorway as she plopped down on the commode saying,

Thank God! Seems like I been holding that for days.

So, Mom, I can still go to the party tonight, right? fingers crossed behind my back. I knew she would let me, after all, I’m a good kid, with good grades, and besides, she can trust me. Well, the party starts at eight. She said I had to be home by 12:30, which is a real drag: things just be getting started. I guess I’ll have my fun on the run. I went upstairs to get ready; it was about 6 pm. My Mom was in her room, and she was talking on the phone to one of her girlfriends, she was chatting up a storm. They were laughing about something that went on at work, I guess. I shut my door turned on music videos; The Black Eye Peas was on. Going through a million and one dresses, I couldn’t figure out which one to wear. Finally deciding, I wrapped my hair, tied it up, showered, and started getting dressed. I slipped on my wedges, grabbed my handbag, and started downstairs. Stopping at the mirror for one more look, I add a little more lip gloss. My friend Jason was walking with me; he lives across the street he was also invited.

Honey don’t forget 12:30 and no later, here me?

Yes, Mom got it, love you, I yelled back. When I opened the door, Jason was already standing on the porch, waiting. I hated when he did that instead of knocking on the door. Last summer he confessed that he liked me as he put it a whole, whole lot. What does that mean exactly? I mean he’s cute and all, but it’s something odd about him. I just can’t put my finger on it. We share a couple of classes, and he’s smart, college-bound and all that. He wants to practice law. The party was about four blocks away on Conestoga St. He asked if I was going to the dance at our school in a few weeks. I wasn’t sure if I wanted to go or not sometimes those things are so lame.

The only way I would even considering going if I can plan it and decorate.

I guess I can see that; last year everyone complained about it, then that kid almost Od’d.

Yeah! I heard about that. Dr. Glass was shook.

After a block of just silence, then he told me how nice I looked. I complimented him on his jacket. He always wore dress clothes, ties, slacks you know, he was like a Ralph Tresvant, no seriously. The rest of the walk was a little awkward; I felt it was something he wanted to say. He was a little shy. When we were younger, he was always teased as a Mamma’s boy. His Mom died a few years ago, so people just stop saying it. I asked him if he knew the new kid. He said his name is TR and they weren’t friends.

TR was a senior too, he moved here from New York. His mom passed away years ago and he came here to live with his Aunt. Ok, I thought at least now I got means to information. Of course, I asked if he was coming to the party. Jason said he didn’t know.

Finally, we could see a few people standing outside of the house. You could hear the music too. The DJ was playing my song. I was like hey yall, what’s good? Everybody was like yo this and that. Let the games begin; I’m on the clock. I pulled a joint out of my bag. What Moms didn’t know was that Audrey’s parents were out of town. Her neighbors were cool if she kept the noise and music to a minimum and the party was over by 2 am. Why because they were in their twenties and they were drinking and getting high just like the rest of us. We just had to worry about Mrs. Jones across the street she stayed in her window being nosey. Yeah, like we couldn’t see her ass, peeping through the curtains in her bedroom. She never told on us maybe she just like to watch.

The party was downstairs in the basement. Lights were dim, but the blue light was on. Beers, beers and more beer and we could always count of Jarret to bring the hard stuff, beer was my thing I was cool. So, we fired up the shit, laughed, danced and drank like we were grown. I was having the best time, and that’s when he came down the stairs, yes TR in all his fineness. Oh, wait a minute he had a girl with him, damn. I hated Jason; sometimes, it seemed like he could read my mind.

Jason said don’t get ya panties in a bunch that’s Tone’s sister Patty." Sarcastically.

Gee thanks Jay, and I rolled my eyes. He walked away; TR was talking to Audrey. One of the guys handed him a beer, a man after my own heart; he drank the Bud too. This might just be the start of something, smiling.

Everyone was tipsy by now, and the DJ was doing his thing, it was one of the best basement parties I had been to in a long time. Tone and Melissa showed up around 11:30. She was all giggly, but she looked nice. He looked alright, whatever. After a while they disappeared upstairs probably to Audrey’s room some kids did that, not me. Me, too much class. It was almost time for me to leave anyway.

I gathered my things and said my goodbyes and also to Audrey before I left. I went downstairs and said hello and goodbye to a couple of folks. Jason was looking a little wasted he was sitting on the couch with a drink in his hand. I didn’t bother to say anything it looked like he was staying. As I walked towards the door, an unfamiliar voice said hey leaving so soon. We talked for a little while. I told him my name, and he asked if he could walk me home. Hell yeah, in my head. It seemed like hours, but it was only four blocks, he seemed nice he was a year older, but that’s not much. He walked me to the door, and like a gentleman, he said goodnight, but not before asking me for my phone number.

Once I was inside, I danced around the living room feeling good about tonight. A light came on in the dining room. Moms always waited up for me. I love her.

So, you must have had a great time hun, baby girl?

Oh, hey Mom yeah it was cool, the new boy walked me home, and he asked for my phone number.

Really? How Jason take that I thought you walked with him to the party?

I did Mom Jason will get over it we are friends nothing more. My Mom folded her arms and said.

That boy has loved you forever. I always liked him he has manners, and dresses so nice! she said going upstairs to bed. I asked her what she thought about me planning the school dance.

Go for it, goodnight baby girl. I blew her a kiss. I fixed me a glass of water and took it upstairs to my room. All night I dreamed about the party and meeting TR.

    What A Prank

    45697.png

T he next day in school everybody was raving about, Audrey’s party. That’s all you heard in the lunchroom; shit got wild after I left, I heard. My Mom is corney. I missed everything, the fight; somebody else got caught with their pants down and the whole nine. They took pictures of people passed out and everything. Audrey was in school, looking hung-over. She had on dark glasses she wasn’t cracking jokes today, she funny. I was sober as a church mouse last night. My Mom is always waiting up; she practically follows me to my room sometimes. Sometimes she is irking. Shit, some Moms could care less what their kids do thank God, my Mom cares.

I was seated at the table with a few friends the usual suspects, Melissa grinning from ear to ear with the darkest passion mark I had ever seen, Jason always in the cut and TR’s sister Patty, who is now best friends with Melissa; suddenly. Tone came through the door, Melissa was ready to jump out of her skin.

Hey, babe wassup? You know that nigga kept right on walking and went over to another table with this girl they call Tinkerbell or Tink for short. He put his arms around her they kissed. She was one of the high saditty chics who family had a little money. She always had some flashy shit on. I looked at Melissa; we all did. She tried to be nonchalant, she tried to eat but couldn’t, so she grabbed her shit and walked out. That’s my homey, so I went after her. I bumped right into TR. I tried to explain I had to take care of something and I would be right back.

Sometimes we would sneak in the fire tower and smoke. I knew she would go there. When I found her, she was crying snot and everything, I just started rubbing her back trying to console her. She said,

Go ahead and say it! Mel said feeling sorry for herself. I hugged her and she said.

I’m dumb right, such a dummy, you warned me. As much as I wanted to agree I mean come on what kind of friend do you take me for; I was thinking Sucker!

Of course, not Sis, he’s a nut. It’s his loss. Please tell me you didn’t sleep with him? She looked at me and started balling even more. She told me for what I could understand between sniffles she kinda did. Which translated she gave him a blowjob in Audrey’s bathroom they fooled around a little, and that’s how she got the hickey. He asked her to be his girl, Bla-Bla-Bla. She is fucking crazy she fell for that shit. I kept rubbing her dumb ass back, shaking my head trying to reassure her and her phone started vibrating. Sitting next to her, I couldn’t make it out it was upside down at first, it was…. OMG! It was her and Tone in the bathroom, and she was doing, quickly she stopped it from playing. Someone recorded it they must have been in the shower taping them. Before I could say anything, she bolted towards the exit, and she was gone, damn. I was mad as hell. I went back to the lunchroom, and TR was sitting at the table with my friends busting it up. I sat down and said, don’t ask.

Melissa wasn’t the only one who got the picture one by one people phones were buzzing. They started laughing and showing other people at their tables. Tone and Tink acted as if they didn’t see or hear what was going on. After a while, the two of them walked passed my table, Tone turned back and winked at me, but I don’t think no one else noticed. He was dead to me, who does that?

TR could see I was upset he didn’t say a word he kept eating his lunch. I was deeply mortified. After all, she was my best friend. Jason cleared his section and was about to leave when his phone vibrated. He didn’t even bother to look at it. He just told us he would see us later. TR sister came over to the table and said.

Cool prank hun? She was laughing some asshole walked by and slapped her five and kept walking, telling her she was the best whoever did it. I couldn’t believe it. I looked at him to see his expression. I couldn’t tell if he was a part of it or not, so I just left. He called after me, but I kept walking he didn’t come after me, so guess what it wasn’t important.

Melissa didn’t come to school after that for about a week. I went to see her a few times, but her Mom said she was sick and couldn’t have company. She wouldn’t answer my phone calls or text messages. I was worried about her. I barely said anything to people at school. I just did my school work and came home. I did see Tone and Tink together I guess they were a couple now, but you know what, that’s about her money. She will find out you always do when the time comes. What I didn’t understand was how and why Tone’s sister Patty was involved in the prank? Who knows, people are something nowadays.

I guess I got home around 4:00, my Mom wasn’t home yet, Charlie was scratching at the back door wanting to come in. We had him about six years now; he’s a Shitz Shu, very smart. My Mom couldn’t have known she left him out. She had to be rushing off to work. When I opened the door, he was growling; these little dogs kill me, his teeth were on top of his top lip, this meant he was pissed. He ran by still growling turned and barked at me and ran up the stairs. Charlie has such a big personality. I did my homework, flopped on the couch after turning on the tv. My Mom usually comes in around 5:30 or so. She must have been running a little late.

Around seven, the doorbell rang and Charlies started barking, so annoying. To my surprise, it was Mel’s Moms.

Hi sweetheart I hate to bother you, but can we talk? She said, sounding very concerned.

Sure Ms. Jefferson, please come in, is Mel ok?

Is your mother here’, she said, looking around? I shook my head, no.

Honey I need to know what the hell is going on and what happened at that party, Melissa is acting very strange, she seems very depressed. I know she is your closest friend do you have any idea……. Not to be disrespectful I cut her off. I tried to explain that I didn’t know exactly what happened. I think the guy she likes might have broken it off with her. She’s not taking my calls or texting me back the few times I came by you wouldn’t let me see her. All I know is at lunch she started crying and ran off. I swear that’s all I know. Well, that’s what I told her. I wouldn’t dare tell her she was a slut someone took a picture of her sucking Tone’s thing, how could I, besides Mel might be heartbroken or depressed but, I actually, want to live to see graduation, you heard? Wouldn’t you know it my Mom was turning her key in the door.

    Oh! Hi Debbie, wassup?

"Oh, I came by to ask your daughter if anything happened at the party. My Melissa is very-very upset, and she seems so depressed. I thought maybe someone did something to her. When she came home from school, she just ran to her room. She doesn’t want to talk to me about it.

Well thanks, baby, I really need to be getting on back now. If you hear anything, please call me, nice seeing you again Bev.

You too we need to get together sometime soon. They hugged each other.

Ok Ms. Jefferson, can you tell Mel to please call me? She was out the door. Ok, so that led to my Mom asking me what happened at the party. I tell my mother everything; I think all young girls should be able to talk freely with their parents there is just too much going on. Teen pregnancy and all that other crap my mother instilled in me, education first, good job making good money and then picking the man I want. Not allowing myself to just settle for any and everybody, but to find a good man. I always listen to my mother, but she is so picky, that’s why I believe she is alone and just part-time dating.

I just told my Mom it’s very private, and I didn’t think that Mel would want her to know her personal business. I think she got dumped and that was all to it. Because she would have called Ms. Deb and told her everything, they are friends. I’m not stupid. The rest of the night went smooth. I talked to TR for hours on the phone that night. We have a lot of things in common. Movies, animals, music, and we both would die for mint-chocolate chip ice cream. So, we made plans to see a movie over the weekend.

Well, the next day, Melissa finally called me and said she was going to school. I met her on the corner of her block. We walked and talked about what happened at the party. She was still very upset about what happened. I told her she should just flip the script on them. She was like flip on who? I told her the people that haven’t got over it yet. We both knew or should I say she should have known it’s not over. Somebody gonna say something about the picture. She didn’t know who took the picture; she thought they were alone. Did she fall for that shit? The bell had already rung, so the school yard was empty. We went inside a couple of people said hey or waved as we walked by. I walked her to her locker. TR walked up and said what’s up yall? Melissa said hey I got to get to class yall I’m late. One of the guys, well a friend of Tone walked by gesturing with his hand like he was doing a blow job and he started laughing as he got closer to us.

What you jealous with ya little dick, yeah, I heard about you, gesturing with her fingers tiny. He could have died he started walking fast. Melissa and I were going separate ways, so we high fived each other as we passed by each other and TR bust out laughing. Melissa flipped her hair and switched down the hall.

Yo dude you a nut, TR yelled out to the boy. TR and I walked to class, I said to him, See how that works?

What, babe? He said still kinda laughing.

Flipping the script on these fools. We laughed then he walked me to my class and kissed me goodbye. Well, the rest of the day went great. TR and I met up for lunch. I didn’t know where Melissa was; she never came to the lunchroom. I figured she was maybe at the library or maybe she decided not to, because of what happened last week. Then someone yelled fight everybody started running to see what was up. I stayed seated, who cares.

Before I knew it, Jason hollered in the cafeteria, Yo it’s ya girl! Leaving as quickly as he said it. I was on my feet, and out the door, TR wasn’t too far behind me. I couldn’t believe it was her and Tink. Tone was standing nearby and yeah that idiot was smiling. Girls can be so stupid. I tried my best to break it up, but after I got hit in the eye, I said the hell with it. Where are the damn teachers? Oh, never mind Melissa was giving it to her and giving it to her good? Well, that’s my friend! So rich girls can’t fight? This chick got so much mouth, though. After about fifteen minutes, two teachers and the Principal came to stop the fight. Weave was all over the place, and Tink’s boobs were popping out.

And if any of ya friends want some they can get some too; fucking bitch tell Mommy to get you some boxing lessons.

Ms. Jefferson that will be quite enough," Dr. Glass said furious as hell. She was trying to pull Mel one way, and the teachers were pulling Tink the other way. Tink lip was bleeding; she looked drunk. People weren’t laughing; they were shocked by Mel, who knew? I damn sure did! You know it was really a good fight. Go, Mel, I thought to myself. I walked behind her and Dr. Glass to the office.

Well needless to say; what I didn’t mention. Tone stepped off when he realized Tink was losing badly of course and he was on to the next just like that and who did he leave with his arm around, her friend Jenny, yeah rich, but definitely on the block.

Melissa and Tink were suspended for one week. She had to leave school right away, so I cut my last two classes and we went to my house. I knew my Mom wouldn’t be home.

So, what was all that about? She explained that she was going to come to the lunchroom. Tone and Tink were standing in front of the café, and Tink said she was a hoe. She said she tried to ignore them, but then she said that Mel was mad she sucked his you know what and he didn’t want her. Mel said so she slapped her, and they got into it. Well, she won’t be saying that shit out loud again, especially now since Tinkabell got her bell rung literally.

We both were laughing. Mel just had a tiny little scratch on her cheek but had a fist full of Tink’s hair, don’t ask I didn’t either especially when she put it in her pocket. Glad we’re friends! Mel hung around and went home around the time she would if she went to school. I don’t know what she’s gonna tell her mother she can’t go back to school without a parent after the suspension.

After she left, I took a shower and settled in with my homework. I was glad I finally did speak with DR. Glass about the dance. I gave her my ideas about decorations and live entertainment. She told me to put it together; she loved my ideas and was glad I took the initiative. So, tonight I will make a list of everything I need. Also, I had to study for a science test. I love Mr. Devour to death, but his obsession with rats are killing me. I don’t want to know their gestation period or the fact that they don’t have a skeletal system. Although I must say, he is very informative. His family was killed in the concentration camps. He gets very emotional when he talks about it. He is Jewish of course, he has a long white beard and always tells us tales. But this rat nonsense is half of the grade for his class, so I’ll just keep cheesing until it’s over. I fell asleep laying on top of my books, and the phone startled me it was TR.

Wow, what time is it I fell asleep?

It’s about 7:45. So, I was thinking I can come by for a little while it’s a good movie coming on at 8:30 tonight? I told him it was cool, but I took the phone downstairs to see if my Mom was home. She was in the kitchen finishing dinner she must have gotten in a little late. I was listening to TR as I opened the refrigerator. Wrapping up the conversation, I said, see you later.

Mom it’s okay TR can come by we’re gonna watch a movie it starts at 8:30?

Have you finished studying sleepy head and your homework is finished?

Of course, you know I get the job done, jokingly I said.

Well I guess it’s okay. You and this boy seem to be getting pretty serious, I see. So–-. I cut her off I knew the rest, but she had no worries I’m not ready for that yet nowhere near ready. I am saving myself for marriage. I went to the bathroom to freshen up before he arrived.

After watching the movie, we just talked about school, old relationships, our plans for the future, and having children. I walked him to the door around ten. He held me in his arms and kissed me so passionately; we never kissed like that before. When I opened my eyes, I was a little light-headed my heart was pounding in my chest like crazy. Was I falling in love because something is very different? I closed the door and practically glided up the stairs. I could hear my mother saying goodnight, but I couldn’t even speak. I fell on my bed and grabbed my pillow and thought wow now that’s a kiss. I quickly got on the phone to tell Mel. Her line was busy, so I took a shower to cool off.

When Melissa got home after leaving my house that day her mother was waiting for her and already knew she was fighting, the principal called her because she was very upset that she was involved in something like that. She has never really been in trouble before, and she was very shocked she was in a fight. Melissa got grilled for about an hour, about her grades and status and how she needs to act more seriously about her education Bla-bla-bla. In the end, on top of her suspension, she was grounded for an additional two weeks and could only use the phone for school-related projects or assignments; good luck with that.

Around eleven o’clock after Mel’s Mom was fast asleep, she called me we stayed on the phone for hours talking about boys and her present situation. Until finally, we said goodbye, after all, I did have a test tomorrow.

I drifted off to sleep and dreamed about TR. I loved looking at him. I especially loved how he walked, with authority and swag. He looked good in his clothes he was a funny guy, very generous to a point. I was falling for him, and every time I saw him. I got goosebumps. Someone once told me when he walked in, you were smiling so much. It’s something about him, but whatever it is I like it.

    You Never Know About People

J oy Meyers had a crush on Jason Clinton since third grade, but he never paid her any attention mainly I think because he didn’t realize it, especially since he has been following me around since what first grade, smiling to myself.

Joy arrived at school a little early she slipped a piece of paper in Jason’s locker. It was cut out of a heart it read. Have a wonderful day, your secret admirer. She looked around to see who took notice and then quickly headed to the library, smiling all the way. She often imagined them together. Joy was a simple looking girl, not like the popular girls. She was rather mousey; she wore glasses that she constantly pushed up on the bridge of her nose. She lived with her grandmother, who was about 70 years old. They were like two old maids with a bunch of cats. She kept to herself mostly, and of course, she’s very smart too. She will probably be the Valedictorian for our senior class. I really liked her; we talk from time to time in passing. I wish she would let me give her a makeover though, but how do you tell someone they need one. I would never ask Mel how I should ask Joy because she’s so blunt she might hurt Joy’s feelings. I’ll figure it out somehow; I think she has potential.

I arrived at school on time, but I rushed to my locker because I wanted to head to the library first to get a book. Tone and Jenny were kissing right next to my locker, disgusting. Tink and Jenny have been friends since pre-school who does that. Tink won’t be in school for while I wonder if she knows about their little tryst. I bet you twenty she doesn’t but, I spoke too soon here comes Marcel he’s our school editor snap-snap. Well, now everybody will know. I love this school, lots of drama on a daily.

Hey, cutie wassup, gesturing, call me, putting his hand to his ear."

Hey, Marcel never in a million years! I closed my locker and walked the opposite way, spinning around as I joked with him. We do this regularly. I will never go out with him; he’s just not my type. I like the shit out of him he’s funny. Do you know how some people just make better friends? That’s us. OMG did Tone just wink at me; he’s a pig. I rolled my eyes and kept it moving. Then he had the nerve to yell down the hall tell shorty I said wassup. I can’t stand him. Jenny justa grinning, dumb ass by tomorrow she will be history. Then again, he might dog her until Tink comes back.

I went to the library and Joy was on the computer whatever she was looking at she was sitting close to the screen. So, I walked over; she minimized the screen. Ok, I thought. She pushed her glasses up on the bridge of her nose and spoke to me.

    Hi Joy, how’s it going?

Well, it goes I guess you look nice, but you always look nice. I just look awful all the time it seems, and there’s the dance, and the prom is coming up. I have never been to a school dance before, and I was wondering. Then she just shut down on me and quickly flew out the room. She left me standing there like WTF. This just might be my chance though, could she use a makeover, yes! I have been doing hair here and there, mostly for friends. I was taking Cosmetology this year as my major, and my school boards were coming up soon. Well, I hate to brag, but my skills are tight, and I am one of the best-looking girls here, if I may say so myself. She’ll be back, and I will be waiting for my little caterpillar.

Jason found his little heart and looked around, hoping to get a clue on the identity of the special admirer. He read it and put it in his back pocket and headed to class. I was coming out of the library with my book and Joy walked passed Jason quickly and with her head down like he couldn’t see her, but you know I don’t think he did he was staring at me.

    Hey you, wassup?

Hey J nothing much need to get to Ms. Bagbee’s class right away, talk to you later. I know he was about to go on and on and on.

    Ok, we’ll talk later babe.

    The Bad News

    45697.png

"G ood Morning Ms. Jefferson, have a seat," she said then sitting behind her desk. Nervously Mrs. Jefferson sat down, placing her handbag on her lap.

I could barely sleep all night. Ok, I’m a big girl what’s the results.

Well, your Mammogram indicated that it was a mass on your right breast and it was about the size of a walnut. She pulled the film out and began to show her exactly where it was located. So, we did the biopsy a couple of weeks ago, which indicate that there is cancer present. Mrs. Jefferson thought she was ready. She heard what the doctor was saying, but all it translated to was she was dying.

She placed both hands on her face and began to sob. The doctor waited patiently and then tried to console her by coming around on her side and began rubbing her back and handing her tissues.

After a few minutes tearfully, she asked if it was too late for any treatment. The doctor believed the best thing to do was to remove the breast and start chemo and radiation treatments right away. She told her the cancer was at stage three, meaning that cancer had started to spread. She said in her opinion; a mastectomy was the right thing to do. Mrs. Jefferson agreed she should have the surgery right away. She signed the necessary papers they talked a little more, and she was told she would be called tonight for an arrival time by her secretary. She was given some instructions, and then Dr. Utah hugged her and told her to pray. Mrs. Jefferson walked to the elevator in shock. Her great grandmother died of breast cancer before she was born. She kept in mind that back then there weren’t many options. She pressed the button for the elevator and just stared into space.

It felt like the longest bus ride home ever. She had called
