About this ebook
Following professional soccer player Ethan Zohn on another global adventure, this entertaining and educational handbook explores the cultures and customs of Mexico. From a walking tour of Mexico City and visits to the ruins of the country's ancient civilizations to a once-in-a-lifetime butterfly migration sanctuary and colorful Lucha Libre wrestling, this investigation explores the real Mexico, avoiding the commonplace tourist traps and border towns. Activities presented in each chapter include learning Spanish, science and math projects based on Mayan cultures, creative writing and art exercises inspired by Mexican folk art and celebrations, and even simple traditional recipes. Staying true to its series, this installation provides the opportunity to research a charitable project in Mexico and make a difference in this wonderful country.

Reviews for Soccer World Mexico
1 rating1 review
- Rating: 3 out of 5 stars3/5I think that this is a great book and that it is very resourceful! The central message of this book is clearly identified in the beginning pages of the book through the speaker, Ethan. Ethan portrays the central message to readers that by learning about soccer or sports one can learn a lot about a certain country or culture, in this case, readers learn about Mexico and the Spanish culture. One thing that I think is great about this book is the non-formal tone of the speaker. Miguel starts out the book by inviting readers to join him on an adventure through Mexico and to pack up their soccer gear and get ready to go. I think that this entices readers and makes them more interested to read the book. Another thing that I like about this book is the resources that it provides to readers. For example, on the beginning pages, Miguel tells readers that as his, "travel buddy" they can go to his website and see photos, activities, and projects related to Mexico and the Spanish culture. This is a great use of the Universal Design for Learning in which this book engages readers not only through the text, but also through technology. Another great thing about this book is that it connects factual information with hands on activities. For instance, one page teaches readers how to make a salsa snack using Mexican ingredients. Also, this book includes words to know and important vocabulary for readers. An example of some vocabulary words it includes are: colonial, channels, valley, environmental. This book does a great job of incorporating science, history, culture, and geography all into one.
