    Chapter One

    Emily Miller made her way down the raised wooden sidewalk trying to locate the correct saloon. She entered her third such establishment and waited for her eyes to adjust from the bright sunshine to the dark dim atmosphere. She scanned the room and saw the man who had been pointed out to her two days before. The man who could help her get away from her troubles. Taking a deep breath, she approached the table where this man and three others were playing cards.

    Mr. Chandler? she asked and waited for him to acknowledge her.

    Yes? the other three men answered at the same time.

    Emily’s eyes moved from one man to the other and recognized the similarities between all four men. They must be related. I’m sorry. Mr. Tyson Chandler? She watched as the three who had answered all dropped their gazes back to their cards and waited for the fourth to respond to her.

    She waited, but he didn’t look her way. She noted that he was concentrating on his cards and completely ignoring her. As he asked for two cards and then placed his bet, she began to fume. Emily Miller was not accustomed to men ignoring her let alone being so outright rude. She sighed heavily but the game continued.

    The men seemed to forget their visitor and were intent on placing their bets and studying the others at the table for a hint of reaction to reveal their hands. But Tyson Chandler was well aware of the beautiful woman waiting for him. He had noticed her the second she entered the saloon. Noticed the haughty way she had glided across the floor towards their card game. The proud way she held herself. And even now he could hear her heavy breathing clearly expressing her dislike at being ignored. But she would have to wait. He had other important things to deal with right now.

    Emily cleared her throat as a reminder of her presence but not a single man looked up. This was ridiculous! She did not have time for these delays. She had already spent two days trying to track this man down, and her time was running out. She knew her brother in law would be
