Mia stared nervously at her watch. He was already thirty minutes late, and other diners were giving her knowing, sympathetic smiles. It hadn't been the first time it had happened, and she was absolutely sure it wouldn't be the last. Her luck with men over the last few years had been worse than ever. She sipped slowly at her water, did her best to look as though she was unfazed, and smiled outwardly at everyone who cast their gaze across to her lonely table. What she couldn’t help but feel however, was that her table was in a spotlight, the restaurant was a big stage, and she was the star of her very own tragic love story.

'Mia?'

She looked up to the voice, suddenly realising she'd been staring into the middle of nowhere, and hadn't noticed him come in. A little flustered, she offered out her hand to shake, and leant in for a kiss at the same time. When she sat down again, she could feel herself going red.

'The traffic was awful', Paul said. 'Have you been here long?'

His name was Paul Carter, and Mia had spent hours trawling through online dating profiles until she found one she thought would be a perfect match. He was creative, good looking, successful, and ready for a long term relationship. At least that's what his profile said. Mia decided to reserve judgement until the end of the meal, but was extremely hopeful that he might be the one to whisk her off her feet and finally treat her like a real woman.
