Rise Of The Bastard King - NiZary Cazuko

Chapter 1: A Young Phoenix Awakens

Chris’s day was going fine until he got branded by an oversized medieval garden decoration. It started out like any other day. He woke up late for school as usual. His wavy blond hair looked as if a family of birds nested in it while he was sleeping. His deep blue eyes which usually looked like little sapphires, were practically crusted shut. Rushing around, he slipped on his favorite pair of shorts and a dark maroon t-shirt.

Oh, would you look at that? You are getting up today. Let me guess, you need me to drive you to school? Chris’s brother Alex said sarcastically. Chris eyed Alex down. A lot of people said they looked nearly identical despite the 6-year age difference, but Chris didn't see it.

Alex was tall and built like a rhinoceros. Alex's hair was the same color as Chris’s, but he kept it buzzed extremely short. Alex has a burly lumberjack beard and the same shocking blue eyes as Chris.

Yeah, my alarm didn’t go off, Chris said in retaliation. We need to get that thing fixed, or at least get me a new one, He continued. Chris didn’t mind living with his two brothers. He never really got to meet his dad, and well, his mom isn’t what you would call stable. Something happened when Chris was a baby that had caused her to lose a piece of her sanity, making her unfit to take care of the three boys. They bounced back and forth between different homes of people that were trusted family friends until they were able to take care of themselves.

Running out the door, Chris grumbled with annoyance at his own mistake. Oh man! Hold on I forgot something! He yelled to Alex over the roar of his truck.

Hurry up! You’re gonna make me late for work! Chris sprinted inside, swinging open the door and looking vigorously around his room, throwing things everywhere. His room which was usually quite neat, was now littered with dirty clothes, video games, miscellaneous knick-knacks.

Chris sighed with relief. There it is! He slid on the only thing that reminded him of his dad. It was an old necklace with a phoenix-shaped medallion. His older brother’s say it was a gift from their father.

As they pulled into the school parking lot Chris instinctively read the big white letters that hung on the side of the building reading ‘LIBERTY REGIONAL HIGH SCHOOL.’ Getting out of the truck he made sure he thanked his brother, but it’s only waved off as Alex sped away. Chris sighed with disappointment. He knew it was just the beginning of another monotonous day, doing the same thing he does every other day.

He entered the school and signed in at the desk due to his 10-minute tardiness. Next step was to go put his things in his locker before class started and BAM! Chris caught a stray soccer ball to the head slamming it into the locker. His head throbbed and felt like it was gonna explode. The pain coursed through and ran all the way down his neck and back. But the pain made Chris mad. Furious. The pain was slowly dissipating, but his anger was not. The medallion that he wore almost started to heat up, which is kind of weird but that always seems to happen when he gets worked up liked this. He rarely notices it because when he’s that mad, he has other things on his mind. Chris turned to look, and of course, that’s who it was.

Yo, what up Chris? My bad. The teenage boy about 17, Chris’s age,
