Always On Valentine's Day - Mandy Bee
Chapter One
Ivy, what is he doing?
Chris, my husband, asks as he walks in the living room and sees his seven year old son running around like a chicken with his head cut off.
Tomorrow is the Valentine party at his school.
Smiling up at the man I’ve been blessed to call mine for that last ten years, I can’t help but compare him to our baby boy Zack. They have the same eyes, the same chin, they even have the same untrainable cowlick in their hair.
Over the years Chris is gained a few wrinkles around his eyes, some gray has started showing in his hair, but I will always see the sweet little boy I met in second grade.
We grew up together, and have always been friends, but we never let it go past the friend zone area. I think it would have ruined the special bond we had.
After we both finished college we found ourselves back at home and lost. Neither of us knew what we genuinely wanted to do with our lives. We both had degrees in business management, but that sad little piece of paper meant nothing to us. Our parents had decided, probably before we were even born, that us going to college wasn’t something we could do, it was something we would do, and with no questions asked.
Chris was the one who suggested a business management degree. We made sure we had all the same classes so we would have someone to lean on or chest off of. After freshmen year was over we rented a house together. We both hated the dorm life. Neither one of us had had the best roommates. One of his was a drunk football player, while one of mine was a ‘I’m better than you because my daddy has money’ type of girl. We knew moving in together would be the only way we would survive college.
A few months into us living together I started seeing him in a new light. I found myself wanting to be around him more, wanting to cuddle with him on the couch as we watched movies, and dreaming about him kissing me. I was convinced that he was clueless about my feelings.
That Valentine’s Day everything changed.
Having to deal with Professor Whitt without Chris was a nightmare. Why did he have to get sick today of all days? The boy never gets sick. That’s
