《Gold Mean》(English Translation Version)
(1)
What the Heaven Ordinance implies is Nature; obeying Nature is entitled the divine Way; keeping this divine Way is entitled Instruction.
The divine Way can never be deviated for an instant. Whatever deviated availably is not entitled the divine Way. Therefore, esquires are always cautious, never waiting to see or to hear what happens.
Nothing appears more visibly than concealment and nothing manifests more obviously than minuteness. Therefore, esquires watch over himself when alone.
No provoked pleasure, anger, sadness or delight in mind is entitled equilibrium. Whatever provoked feelings functions duly is entitled harmony. Such an equilibrium is the very fundamental in the world; such a harmony is exactly the achieved way of the world.
Let the equilibrium and harmony is achieved perfectly. The good order of the world prevails with all things nourished.

In the first chapter, as aforesaid, Zi-si states the opinions he was instructed. First, the root of the divine Way is originated from the Heaven with its unchangeability is clearly stated. Its substance is well prepared in ourselves available to part with. Next, it deals with the importance to preserve and nourish. Finally, it deals with the extremity of the magnificent achievements and influence of the sages and spirits. For those wishing to learn, their inner thoughts should be guided to remove the outer temptations of selfness and fill themselves with the very goodness inside. This chapter is exactly the writer Yang called
