Top Tips For Door Staff and Bouncers - Neil Gardner
By:
Brett Eastman
Hello and thanks for buying this Book and if you didn’t buy it, well I hope it helps you anyway, even though you’re a thieving bastard!
I HOPE IT WILL GIVE you a lot of help in your new career. This book is not an attempt to recreate those tough guy Bouncer memoirs that you have seen in the bargain book shops but is instead a list of the best advice that I and others can offer you as begin your career and I hope that they serve you well.
The world of the Door Supervisor is an odd one, most people think it's just huge men (and women!!) standing around in black suits watching ever more drunken customers and then throwing them out when they eventually get out of control. This may sound exciting, entertaining and dangerous but it can also be dull and very tiring, you try standing on your feet for hours at a time! Throughout this book I use the term Door Supervisor but you can also use Bouncer, Doorman or Security Staff. I don't have a problem with what we are called on the job and I hope you wont have a problem either.
Generally, people will see Door Supervisors as they wade into trouble and think it's a cool job and that by doing it they will be given a certain authority and status that they don't normally have. Some want a bit more excitement in their lives while others are just looking for a bit of extra cash when they would otherwise only be sleeping, and that's fine. Whichever one of these types you are, it doesn't matter, what I want to do is offer you some advice that will allow you to do the job well and most importantly - safely.
I have tried to use my own experiences both good and bad, along with the best advice I could find. I have also included some of the worst examples of the trade I've seen and will also offer some ideas on how you may be used in a club and what to buy before you turn up to work.
1. Sometimes the Wrong Guys Want to be a Door Supervisor
YOU WILL TALK TO A lot of people throughout the night but one thing you can rely on is that you will meet someone who, wants to be a door supervisor. In fact, you might be one of those guys right now, just remember living the dream is a lot different from dreaming it!
If you are violent person or if you have a temper the job is not for you. Don't jump into it lightly, don't do it to try to prove anything to yourself and don't do it to impress anybody either. Do it for yourself, because you can and because you want to help people, you'll enjoy it more.
2. DOOR SUPERVISORS Need to be
