Chapter One
The End before the End
‘I will shoot her! I will kill her!’ He shouted as they got outside. He kept the illegally obtained gun to Skylar’s temple.
‘You won’t shoot your wife. She’s carrying your child,’ Luna tried to reason with him even though she knew he was beyond reasoning.
‘I only listen to one person. I will shoot.’
Luna and Sydney looked at each other confused.
‘Who’s that then?’ Sydney asked.
‘Shut the fuck up! Be quiet!’ he shouted.
There was a group of police all around the house. Skylar stood in tears afraid of her own husband. A man she had loved and trusted. Who had he become? It wasn’t easy for her to understand. She wanted to stay alive. She owed it to the little one inside her.
‘Noah, please put down the gun?’ Luna spoke calmly.
Sydney stood beside her and tried to keep her calm too. It wasn’t like her. If she had her way she would’ve shot right through his skull, but that put the mother and baby at risk too.
‘Please don’t hurt us?’ Skylar pleaded softly. She was terrified that if she made any sudden move that would be the end of her and the baby. ‘At least don’t hurt the baby. I love you, doesn’t that mean anything to you?’
He moved closer, so that she could feel his lips against her ear as he spoke.
‘That’s too bad then, because I don’t love you.’
The words stung, they were worse than the bullet that might be fired through her head.
‘I never loved you. I loved your power, your support, but I never truly loved you. Someone like me is incapable of love.’
Skylar had not wanted the words to affect her, but they did. She tried to remember the things the detectives had told her, but that didn’t change a thing. Noah wasn’t there anymore. They had spent years together. Memories couldn’t just be erased.
‘I hope you heard that and that it sinks in.’ His voice was low but vicious.
She was silent as the tears drizzled down her cheeks. Nothing she said would change a thing. The truth was she might have to die, she might have to accept that it was over for all of them.
She heard the gun click. Her body froze, all the movement that happened from that moment was swift. There was a sound of a gunshot. Years of memories had been shattered! Everything went dark and it was the beginning of the end of the ordeal. There was commotion, sounds and screams and more gun shots, there was the sound of an ambulance, the sound of more police, the sound of fear. All it took was a movement, all it took was a bullet and that wiped every beautiful memory of the family out...

Present Day
It was two in the morning and all Skylar could do was pace. She still hadn’t heard from Noah. It had been a day since he had disappeared to god knows where. Sleep had abandoned her. The baby was kicking frantically which wasn’t helping. The little boy felt the stress of his mother as she worried about Noah. She couldn’t drink, so that was out of the question. All she could do was pace.
At first, she paced their bedroom. As she did so, she looked around the room. It still had his stuff, but a bag was missing. She hated him, and yet there was a part of her that loved him. It was impossible to suddenly just stop loving the man she thought she’d known for many years. Skylar then headed downstairs and paced the living-room. The change of scenery helped. There was less of him downstairs that helped her concentrate on what to do rather than focus on the misery he had caused her.
He had hidden his tracks very well. Why hadn’t she known that this man wasn’t who he said he was? Skylar thought that she was good at what she did, and yet here she was, confused about the man she had laid next to for years.
After an hour of wearing the carpet she headed back upstairs hoping to get some sleep. There were still no calls from him. Her heart sank! She wanted to strangle him, but she knew that if she saw him she probably wouldn’t do that. Instead she would try and understand what was going on. If he was innocent, why was he running, and yet again, his affair with Lucy made him a suspect and it would be hard for him to prove otherwise. Perhaps he had to leave to get more evidence for himself. Skylar looked for every excuse, so she didn’t have to believe he was capable of murder. It just didn’t sit right with her.
Skylar lay on the bed and looked up at the ceiling. Sleep still didn’t want to approach. The baby kicked more than ever.
‘I’m so sorry honey,’ she rubbed her tummy gently. She had wanted this baby, Noah hadn’t, and then he had. It had been a very confusing time. The last thing she wanted to do was to bring her baby into all this mess. ‘I don’t know what to believe or what to do. I don’t want you to suffer.’ She let the tears fall this time. Why was this happening to her? She had been successful, this wasn’t how
