CHAPTER 1
a. Is the celebration of the birth of Jesus Christ evil?
Many believers in Christ do say that Jesus Christ was not born on 25th December; neither did he command that his birth should be celebrated; therefore, the celebration of his birth is evil. Indeed, Jesus was not born on 25th December; neither did he command that his birth should be celebrated. The actual date for his birth is not yet known but the truth is that, he was born. It is written, "And it came to pass in those days, that there went a decree from Caesar Augustus, that the entire world should be taxed (or counted.)
And all went to be taxed everyone to his own city. And Joseph also went up from Galilee, out of the city of Nazareth, into Judea, unto the city of David which is called Bethlehem (because he was of the house and linage of David) to be taxed with Mary his espoused wife, being great with child. And so it was that while they were there, the days were accomplished that she should be delivered. And she brought forth her first born son and wrapped him in swaddling clothes, and laid him in a manger because there was no room for them in the inn" (Luke2:1-7)
The 25th December, which is being used for the celebration of the birth of Jesus Christ popularly known as Christmas, was adopted by the Romans. It was a day of idol festival by the people of Northern Europe including Germany and England. This day was a national holy day in the whole territory.
However, when Christianity began to grow in that zone, the Romans adopted the same day for the celebration of the birth of Jesus Christ Purposely to draw the people attention from idol worship to Christianity. So, the 25 December, was indeed a day of idol festival but that does not mean Christmas is an idol festival, no. No day, week, month or year belongs to the devil. Everything belongs to God. And since everything belongs to God, he can use any day, week, month, year, or anything to honour himself.
God said unto Gideon, Take thy father`s young bullock, even the second bullock of seven years old, and throw down the altar of Baal that thy father hath, and cut down the grove that is by it: And build an altar unto the LORD thy God upon the top of this rock, in the ordered place, and take the second bullock, and offer a burnt sacrifice with the wood of the grove which thou shalt cut down. Then Gideon took ten men of his servants, and did as the LORD had said unto him.
(Judges 6:25-27)
The grove is a wooden pole. It was also worshiped as an idol. It is popularly known as Ashalor pole, the goddess of Sidon and Tyre now Lebanon.
However, Can one say that because the bullock was Joash’s the father of Gideon a pagan, and the wood that was used was an idol wood, so the sacrifice is an idol sacrifice? Again, God said unto Moses, Take thy rod, and cast it before pharaoh, and it shall become a serpent. And Moses and Aaron went in unto pharaoh, and they did so as the LORD had commanded: and Aaron cast down his rod before pharaoh, and before his servants, and it became a serpent. Then Pharaoh also called the wish men and the sorcerers: now the magicians of Egypt, they also did in like manner with their enchantments. For they cast down every man his rod, and they became serpents: but Aaron`s rod swallowed up their rods. (Exodus 7
9-11)
When the rod of Moses swallowed up
