About this ebook

"The Bones of The Soul" is more of an exposed nerve which documents the lifelong journey of the author toward discovering who she is through the pains exacted on to her life by other people. The author explains in "The Bones of The Soul" about how the truths we are told and which are imparted upon us as children and that we choose to carry in to our adulthood are not the same truths which will apply to us in the Now. "If we could bother with the idea that just as we grow and change, so, too, should our own personal beliefs about life in general," say Roxanne.

There is a lot of who we are which remains like a child because of the things that we were told were the truth of ourselves when we were children. As we get older we find out that just like we grow out of the pair of socks which fit us when we started Kindergarten, so, too, do those same truths we were told also become outdated, worn and just no longer viable in our present lives.

We find that the truths which applied to us when we were little tiny kids is not the truth which applies when we are teens, and the truth which applied when we were teens does not equate with the life lived by adults. "The Bone of The Soul," is a trek through the pain and the fear which we all believe is ours, which it is, but it is also something that no one taught us how to no longer hang on to. We are more interested in holding on to what was than we are interested in exacting the changes within us to reach out for something new that it is little wonder that there is so much turmoil going on in our individual inner worlds.

"The Bones of The Soul" makes it OK for us to hurt and even gives us good enough reasons for why it is best to let it all go ! The author includes personal accounts and some insight as to how we all end up with aching in The Bones of The Soul and how it is that we are fine and safe in the arms of the Universe.

Roxanne K. Cottell

"ROX," as she is known to those closest to her and who are part of her Soul Family, calls Southern California, which is where she was born, her "9th Island home," is the mother of three children, loves to dance and teach hula as medicine, likes hanging out with her friends and loves music and art...her passion is healing, teaching other survivors how to heal, and of course she loves everything weird, eccentric, occultic and Ancient. BY THE AGE OF 50 "...in 50 years on this planet, I have experienced a whole lot, lots of it good, lots of it not so good, but all of it a lesson or a blessing. The thing that we as human creatures forget about when we are being human is that we are not the same person we were six months ago, let alone ten or more years ago. We all find out that as time passes, we outgrow versions of ourselves. We go through so much turmoil in our lives, and we feel like it is all we will ever know. We feel like no matter what we want out of our lives, we will never have it - but we rarely have the reason for why this is the Truth. When we begin to listen to what we say to ourselves, like a parent should their children, we learn things about who we are. 50 year is a long time to get to know someone, especially if that someone is our own Selves. By the age of 50, we should have all learned a whole lot about what things are NOT. Yet, many of us are still trying to figure out who we are to our own Selves. We do not know that person yet, because we were never introduced, many us, to the real person who you and I each call "Me," "Myself," or " I. " The sad fact of the matter is the generation that everyone knows as GenX totally knows who we are, singly, collectively, but, unfortunately, still to many of us are more concerned with who we are outwardly. This is no way to live, namely, By The Age of 50. We chose, collectively, to rebel the only way that we could - metal horns up, a joint in one hand, and beer in the other, our children in tow, never ever knowing what it means to be lied to, never ever knowing what it feels like to feel afraid of who they are, and most of all, they know that they are loved, if by no one "blood," then by the collective of parents who, By The Age of 50, have grown past the things that frightened us in the past, in the Bones of the Soul (A family member tells me that the way it is said in my native language, is Na 'iwi o ke uhane...I will have to check it out) which is where we all live, the Soul. Look around you and see who is there, and who is not, and understand that they are there or not there for your growth as a Soul and that By The Age of 50, we can accept that perhaps those people are there, or not there, because we learned something. By The Age of 50, each and every one of us must have learned something of value. We glue ourselves to the things that our limited human thinking believes is the only reality, is the only one true thing. One day, everything and everyone who we have held closeness with, and everything that we believed, many of us for years and years, changes and grows, sometimes completely from who they presented themselves as, to who and what they have grown to become. Sometimes they stay. Sometimes, they don't. No matter what, By The Age of 50, we understand a lot more than the rest of the world wants to believe we do. The reason that we have been labeled "The Forgotten Generation" is because in the marketing sense, we have become obsolete to the new world as though somehow, you all forgot about us. If you ask one of us, we would tell you that the reason why we are dubbed this, and rightly so, is because we are the generation that forgot about following the narrative of the generations that wanted to continue to make us the generation which also wears the title of "Black Sheep" and I promise - we are fine with it. We are the generation that still puts up our middle fingers, our arms covered in tattoo ink, our music as loud as it ever was, our favorite beers in the fridge, our joints rolled and available to those who became our family over the years - the people who were our friends when we were growing up, ours also and at one time being dubbed 'The Latchkey Generation,' who became our family because it just seemed to a whole lot of us that we somehow just did not fit in. We are still here, numerous and educated, not religious but way more Spiritual than the generations prior to ours, and way more true about it than that of our younger siblings. Our children are brave, are bold, are not afraid to be their truest selves, and all the while, there we were, never leaving them behind, never lying to them about things that happened, and never ever, for the most part, blaming them for being anything other than their most beautiful selves. By The Age of 50, we who were the rockinest people on the planet, the ones who put our signature and stamp on that shit called 'Rebellion,' still having the nerve to say FUCK at a PTA meeting, and questioning everything that we were forced to believe as being The Truth."
