There's huge money in romance. Top romance authors can make five and six figures in a week, let alone than in

Money aside, writing romance fiction is satisfying and fun. Whatever else might happen, and no matter how strange the world which our romantic characters inhabit, readers love our words.

I began my professional writing career writing romance fiction 40 years ago. I had a long break from romance writing in which I wrote other things. In the 1980s, writing fiction, unless you were lucky and hit bestseller status, was a great way to starve.

So I built a satisfying career as a copywriter, a business book author, a magazine writer… and blogger, and writing teacher. I wrote just about anything which paid well. But I never forgot the sheer fun and exuberance of romance writing.

Finally, when Amazon produced the Kindle, and fiction writing became profitable, I started writing romances again. Of all the writing I do and have done, writing romance is the most enjoyable for me. I love teaching my students how to write romance
