How2....Have Fun?
We all need to know How 2… Have fun. It should come easily and naturally but the reality is we all need a little inspiration to try something new. In the modern age, so many people are working harder and longer hours than in any other time in history. Stress has become an epidemic. More and more people are being prescribed exercise to combat the pressures and stress that many of us face on a daily basis. Although traditional exercise like weight lifting, and doing cardio has tremendous benefits, most people get bored very quickly and end up losing interest and stopping altogether. We all need variety to keep things interesting. I believe that it's important to have fun and enjoy the activities that will enrich your mind, body and spirit.
Being an avid outdoor enthusiast I am very active in many sports and recreational activities throughout the year such as kayaking, canoeing, mountain biking, hiking, camping, skiing, snow shoeing, and scuba diving to name a few. Living in New England my outdoor activities vary with the seasons but the one constant is walking and hiking in the woods. I never get bored with this kind of exercise because it doesn't feel like exercise to me. It's just fun. If your able to maintain a gym
workout that's great. More power to you. But for me I don't feel comfortable working out in a gym, plus it bores the heck out of me.
Engaging in recreational activities allows us to be more present and in the moment and by being immersed in nature we become more in tune with the natural world thus reducing the effects of stress. According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention getting 75 minutes of vigorous exercise such as cross-country skiing or hiking each week, or 150 minutes of moderate exercise such as brisk walking or biking, reduces the risk for chronic disease and helps maintain a healthy weight. Regular outdoor activity is a natural remedy that provides many physical health benefits such as reduced arthritis pain, lower blood pressure, weight loss and lowered risk of certain cancers, diabetes, osteoporosis and cardiovascular disease as well as increased confidence and improved creativity and better self-esteem.
What can How2 do for you? I created How2 Adventure Guides to inspire, motivate, and educate people to get out of their comfort zone, get out of the rut, and get out there and exercise while experiencing something new, something exciting, and more importantly… something fun. There are over 80+ types of outdoor recreational sports to participate in and it can become very daunting to know which one to try and where to start.
